Mitra–Varuṇa
Triṣṭubh (probable)
This short hymn to Mitra–Varuṇa asks for inspired speech and right guidance from the Ādityas who uphold ṛta (cosmic order). It praises Mitra’s power to open a “wide path” out of distress and petitions the divine pair to unite and lead the people, protecting the seers and patrons within a secure enclosure.

Mantra 1
यश्चिकेत स सुक्रतुर्देवत्रा स ब्रवीतु नः । वरुणो यस्य दर्शतो मित्रो वा वनते गिरः ॥
जो सच में जानता है, वो हमें बता दे। उसकी नज़र में वरुण है या मित्र है जो हमारी बातें सुनता है। वो अच्छी इच्छा वाला इंसान हमें सही रास्ता दिखाए।

ता हि श्रेष्ठवर्चसा राजाना दीर्घश्रुत्तमा । ता सत्पती ऋतावृध ऋतावाना जनेजने ॥
यह दोनों राजा हैं और उनमें बड़ी रोशनी है। यह बहुत दूर तक सुनते हैं। यह दोनों सच्चाई के मालिक हैं और सच्चाई को बढ़ाते हैं। हर जगह, हर इंसान में यह सच्चाई रखते हैं।

ता वामियानोऽवसे पूर्वा उप ब्रुवे सचा । स्वश्वासः सु चेतुना वाजाँ अभि प्र दावने ॥
मैं तुम दोनों से मदद माँगता हूँ, जैसे पहले लोग माँगते थे। मैं तुम्हारे साथ हूँ। तुम्हारे पास अच्छे घोड़े हैं और समझ है। आगे बढ़ो और हमें शक्ति दो, धन दो।

मित्रो अंहोश्चिदादुरु क्षयाय गातुं वनते । मित्रस्य हि प्रतूर्वतः सुमतिरस्ति विधतः ॥
मित्र बड़ा मुश्किल से भी रास्ता निकालता है। वो घर बसाने के लिए जगह ढूंढता है। मित्र जो लोग उसकी सेवा करते हैं, उनका भला सोचता है। और जो काम संभालता है, उसको सही रास्ता देता है।

वयं मित्रस्यावसि स्याम सप्रथस्तमे । अनेहसस्त्वोतयः सत्रा वरुणशेषसः ॥
हम मित्र की शरण में रहना चाहते हैं। वो सबसे बड़ी मदद करता है। थकता नहीं, हमेशा साथ देता है। वरुण भी साथ रहता है, कुछ भी छोड़ता नहीं।

युवं मित्रेमं जनं यतथः सं च नयथः । मा मघोनः परि ख्यतं मो अस्माकमृषीणां गोपीथे न उरुष्यतम् ॥
मित्र और वरुण दोनों मिलके लोगों को सही रास्ते पे लगाते हैं। जो लोग देते हैं, उनसे दूर नहीं होते। हम रिशियों की हिफाज़त करते हैं। जैसे गाइयों को बचा लेते हैं, वैसे ही हमें सुरक्षित रखते हैं।
