Agni
Gāyatrī
This short Gāyatrī hymn invokes Agni as the Bharatas’ own fire—youngest yet foremost—asking him to bring radiant, much-desired wealth and wellbeing. It praises Agni’s purity and vast shining presence, emphasizing that he is strengthened by ghee oblations and functions as the ancient, choice Hotṛ who carries the rite to fulfillment.

Mantra 1
श्रेष्ठं यविष्ठ भारताग्ने द्युमन्तमा भर । वसो पुरुस्पृहं रयिम् ॥
अग्नि, तुम भारतों के हो, तुम सबसे नए और सबसे बड़े हो। चमकदार दौलत हमारे पास लाओ। तुम अच्चे हो, वो दौलत लाओ जो सब लोग चाहते हैं।
Mantra 2
मा नो अरातिरीशत देवस्य मर्त्यस्य च । पर्षि तस्या उत द्विषः ॥
कोई बुरा ताकत हमारे ऊपर न छाये, चाहे देवता की तरफ से हो या इंसान की तरफ से। हमें उस बुराई से पार ले जाओ, और दुश्मन लोगों से भी बचा के ले जाओ।

विश्वा उत त्वया वयं धारा उदन्या इव । अति गाहेमहि द्विषः ॥
अग्नि, तुम्हारे साथ हम दुश्मनों को पार कर लेंगे। जैसे पानी की धारा आगे बढ़ती रहती है, वैसे हम भी आगे बढ़ जाएंगे। कोई रोक नहीं पाएगा।

शुचिः पावक वन्द्योऽग्ने बृहद्वि रोचसे । त्वं घृतेभिराहुतः ॥
अग्नि, तुम बिल्कुल साफ़ हो और सबको साफ़ करते हो। तुम्हारी ज्योति बहुत बड़ी चमकदार है। लोग तुम्हे घी डाल के जलाते हैं और तुम बड़े हो जाते हो।

त्वं नो असि भारताग्ने वशाभिरुक्षभिः । अष्टापदीभिराहुतः ॥
अग्नि, तुम हमारे हो, भारतों के अग्नि। लोग अपनी शक्ति और बल से तुम्हे जलाते हैं। हर कदम के साथ तुम बड़े हो रहे हो।

द्र्वन्नः सर्पिरासुतिः प्रत्नो होता वरेण्यः । सहसस्पुत्रो अद्भुतः ॥
अग्नि हमारी तरफ से दौड़ता है, घी से सना हुआ। यह पुराना होता है, सबसे बड़ा। यह बल का बेटा है, एक अनोखी चीज़।
