Sukta 7.63
Vasiṣṭha (Vasiṣṭha-gotra; Mandala 7 attribution)
Sūrya/Savitṛ in association with Mitra–Varuṇa (solar vision as their 'eye')
Triṣṭubh (11-syllable pādas; typical of Mandala 7 hymns)
Suraj uthta hai, bhagwan ka chamakta roop. Yeh sab insaanon ka hai, sab dekh sakta hai. Yeh Mitra aur Varun ki aankh hai. Jaise koi chamda phaila de, waise hi yeh andhera door karke sab saaf kar deta hai.
Mantra 2
Suraj uthta hai, sabko aage badhata hai. Yeh ek bada chamakta sign hai, samundar jaisa bada. Yeh ek hi chakkar chalata hai, goondi jaisa. Uski ghodi juki hai, woh use chalake le jata hai. Roshni ka yeh niyam hai.
Mantra 3
Savita devta subah ki roshni mein chamak ke nikalta hai. Woh rishiyon ke saath gaate hue aage badhta hai, khush ho ke. Yeh devta ne meri ichcha maan li hai. Woh woh hai jo apne sthaan ko kabhi chhota nahi karta, jo uska niyam hai.
Mantra 4
Aasman ka sona chamakta hai aur uthta hai. Iski nazar bahut door tak hai. Yeh roshni door tak phailti hai aur andhere ko harati hai. Log suraj ki roshni mein apne kaam pe nikalte hain. Roshni milne se kaam banne lagta hai.
Mantra 5
Mitra, Varun aur Aryaman humare liye jagah bana dein. Humare liye aur humare parivar ke liye aas paas khuli jagah ho. Humare saare raaste ache hon aur sahi disha mein hon. Aap humesha humari hifazat karein aur humara bhala karein.
It praises the rising Sun as the all-seeing light shared by everyone, which exposes hidden darkness and makes right action possible. It also links the Sun to Mitra–Varuṇa as their ‘eye’ and ends with a prayer for safe paths and protection.
Mitra and Varuṇa represent Āditya sovereignty and ṛta (truth/order). Calling the Sun their ‘eye’ means solar light is the visible power that sees, reveals, and supports truth by removing concealment.
It is well-suited for dawn recitation: contemplate inner clarity as the Sun rises, then conclude with the final verse as a prayer for good guidance, safe journeys, and steady well-being.
