RV 6.50 is a broad, protective invocation that gathers Aditi and the Ādityas—especially Varuṇa, Mitra, and Aryaman—alongside Agni, Savitṛ, and Bhaga, asking for grace, guardianship, and well-being. The hymn moves from reverent calling and praise to concrete petitions for shelter, right order, and auspicious gifts, closing with a Bharadvāja-family self-reference that seals the communal act of worship.
Mantra 1
हुवे वो देवीमदितिं नमोभिर्मृळीकाय वरुणं मित्रमग्निम् । अभिक्षदामर्यमणं सुशेवं त्रातॄन्देवान्त्सवितारं भगं च ॥
With acts of reverence I call the goddess Aditi; and for grace I call Varuṇa, Mitra, and Agni; Aryaman who gives unbroken support, the kindly; the protecting gods—Savitṛ and Bhaga as well.
Mantra 2
सुज्योतिषः सूर्य दक्षपितॄननागास्त्वे सुमहो वीहि देवान् । द्विजन्मानो य ऋतसापः सत्याः स्वर्वन्तो यजता अग्निजिह्वाः ॥
O Sun of the good Light, lead hither the gods—those strong Fathers of right discernment—faultless in thy wideness, O Vast One. They who are twice-born, who drink of the Ṛta, who are the true, who bear the heaven-light within, adorable, with Agni as their tongue of offering—bring them to us.
Mantra 3
उत द्यावापृथिवी क्षत्रमुरु बृहद्रोदसी शरणं सुषुम्ने । महस्करथो वरिवो यथा नोऽस्मे क्षयाय धिषणे अनेहः ॥
And may Heaven-and-Earth, the two Vast Ones, become for us a wide and mighty sovereignty, a shelter of good ease. Work for us the great open space, so that here in us, O two Inspirations, there may be a dwelling—without failing or diminution.
Mantra 4
आ नो रुद्रस्य सूनवो नमन्तामद्या हूतासो वसवोऽधृष्टाः । यदीमर्भे महति वा हितासो बाधे मरुतो अह्वाम देवान् ॥
Let the sons of Rudra, the Vasus, bend towards us today—invoked, irresistible. Whether in the small difficulty or in the great, when we are set upon by obstruction, we call the Maruts as gods to our aid.
Mantra 5
मिम्यक्ष येषु रोदसी नु देवी सिषक्ति पूषा अभ्यर्धयज्वा । श्रुत्वा हवं मरुतो यद्ध याथ भूमा रेजन्ते अध्वनि प्रविक्ते ॥
In whose onset the two divine worlds heave and are set in motion, and Pūṣan the helper presses forward with the sacrificer’s ardour—when the Maruts hear the call and indeed come, the broad earth trembles on the opened path.
Mantra 6
अभि त्यं वीरं गिर्वणसमर्चेन्द्रं ब्रह्मणा जरितर्नवेन । श्रवदिद्धवमुप च स्तवानो रासद्वाजाँ उप महो गृणानः ॥
Sing forth to that Hero, the delight of the chant—Indra—with a new-forming word of power, O singer. Surely he will hear the call; praised and approached, he will give the plenitudes of force, as we acclaim his greatness.
Mantra 7
ओमानमापो मानुषीरमृक्तं धात तोकाय तनयाय शं योः । यूयं हि ष्ठा भिषजो मातृतमा विश्वस्य स्थातुर्जगतो जनित्रीः ॥
O Waters, human yet divine, establish for our child and our offspring an unbroken wholeness, peace and right delight. For you indeed are the healers, the most motherly, the begetters of all that stands and all that moves.
Mantra 8
आ नो देवः सविता त्रायमाणो हिरण्यपाणिर्यजतो जगम्यात् । यो दत्रवाँ उषसो न प्रतीकं व्यूर्णुते दाशुषे वार्याणि ॥
May Savitṛ, the god, come to us protecting, golden-handed, adorable—he who, rich in the gift, like the face of Dawn, unfolds for the giver the desirable riches (the things to be chosen).
Mantra 9
उत त्वं सूनो सहसो नो अद्या देवाँ अस्मिन्नध्वरे ववृत्याः । स्यामहं ते सदमिद्रातौ तव स्यामग्नेऽवसा सुवीरः ॥
And thou, O son of Force, today turn the gods into this offering for us. May I be always in thy giving; may I be, O Agni, by thy help a bearer of good hero-strength.
Mantra 10
उत त्या मे हवमा जग्म्यातं नासत्या धीभिर्युवमङ्ग विप्रा । अत्रिं न महस्तमसोऽमुमुक्तं तूर्वतं नरा दुरितादभीके ॥
And may you two, O Nāsatyas, come to my call with inspired thoughts, O wise ones. As you released Atri from the great darkness, so deliver us, O strong Men, from evil in the very nearness.
Mantra 11
ते नो रायो द्युमतो वाजवतो दातारो भूत नृवतः पुरुक्षोः । दशस्यन्तो दिव्याः पार्थिवासो गोजाता अप्या मृळता च देवाः ॥
Become for us givers of the radiant fullness and the plenitudes of force—givers of manhood and wide dominion. You who are to be served, divine and earthly and of the waters, born of the Light—O gods, be gracious and bring us peace.
Mantra 12
ते नो रुद्रः सरस्वती सजोषा मीळ्हुष्मन्तो विष्णुर्मृळन्तु वायुः । ऋभुक्षा वाजो दैव्यो विधाता पर्जन्यावाता पिप्यतामिषं नः ॥
May Rudra and Sarasvatī, in one accord, be gracious to us; may Viṣṇu, full of fostering power, and Vāyu soothe and set us in right movement. May Ṛbhukṣā and Vāja, and the divine Disposer who arranges the workings, and Parjanya together with the Winds, increase for us the inner impulsion of nourishment and strength (iṣ).
Mantra 13
उत स्य देवः सविता भगो नोऽपां नपादवतु दानु पप्रिः । त्वष्टा देवेभिर्जनिभिः सजोषा द्यौर्देवेभिः पृथिवी समुद्रैः ॥
And may that god Savitṛ, Bhaga, safeguard us; and Apāṃ Napāt, filling the streams, protect. May Tvaṣṭṛ, in one accord with the gods by their births, and Heaven with the gods, and Earth with the oceans, uphold and widen our foundation.
Mantra 14
उत नोऽहिर्बुध्न्यः शृणोत्वज एकपात्पृथिवी समुद्रः । विश्वे देवा ऋतावृधो हुवानाः स्तुता मन्त्राः कविशस्ता अवन्तु ॥
And may Ahi Budhnya hear us, and Aja Ekapāt; may Earth and the Ocean support. May all the gods, increasers of the Truth, when called, protect—praised by mantras and celebrated by the seer’s word—so that our journey is kept in the right law.
Mantra 15
एवा नपातो मम तस्य धीभिर्भरद्वाजा अभ्यर्चन्त्यर्कैः । ग्ना हुतासो वसवोऽधृष्टा विश्वे स्तुतासो भूता यजत्राः ॥
Thus, O Children (of the divine), with these thoughts of mine the Bharadvājas chant to you with hymns. O divine powers, O Vasus, unassailable, become wholly praised and worthy of sacrifice—enter our offering with your luminous presence.
The hymn primarily calls Aditi and the Ādityas—especially Varuṇa, Mitra, and Aryaman—along with Agni, Savitṛ, and Bhaga, forming a combined prayer for protection and blessing.
It asks for grace (mercy), protection, and stability in life—both moral order (living in truth) and practical well-being (safe prosperity and a good share of blessings).
Savitṛ is invoked as the protecting, “golden-handed” power who sets good actions in motion and “unfolds” desirable riches for the person who offers and lives rightly.
