एषा ययौ परमादन्तरद्रेः कूचित्सतीरूर्वे गा विवेद । दिवो न विद्युत्स्तनयन्त्यभ्रैः सोमस्य ते पवत इन्द्र धारा ॥
eṣā yayau paramād antar adreḥ | kūcit satīr ūrve gā viveda | divo na vidyút stanáyanty abhráiḥ | somasya te pavata indra dhārā ||
This Soma stream has gone from the highest into the stone’s interior; becoming a seeker it found the cows in the wide cavern. Like lightning thundering in clouds, O Indra, your Soma stream flows in purification.
The Soma-current descends from the paramāt (highest plane) into the heart of the adri (stone): the dense bodily/vital nature where consciousness is pressed and concealed. There it becomes kūcit satīḥ—an intent seeker—and discovers in the wide cavern (ūrve) the gāḥ: rays of illumination hidden in the subconscient depth. The imagery is the classic recovery of the cows: light released from concealment. The comparison to lightning in storm-clouds expresses sudden illuminations and decisive breakthroughs within obscurity. Addressing Indra signals the alliance: illumined mind receives and wields the purified Soma-current to split coverings and reveal light.
Highest consciousness can enter the densest parts of our nature; when it does, it uncovers hidden knowledge and produces lightning-like breakthroughs that reorganize life under a higher truth.
Soma-ritual, Purification (pavamāna), Finding the Cows (recovery of light/knowledge), Inner ascent/descent of illumination, Storm-symbolism as revelation
The verse carries the ancient Aṅgiras-type ‘cows in the cave’ revelation motif, integrated into Soma purification.
Shows the decisive yogic descent: the highest enters the dense; illumination is recovered not by escape but by penetration and revelation.
Mediator current enabling Indra’s lightning-breakthroughs; revealer of hidden lights in the cave of being.
Descent of bliss that turns into illuminative force, releasing knowledge from the subconscient.
Soma purification and Indra-Soma empowerment

Alternates descent (heavy) and sudden flash (bright)
Produces a felt ‘drop’ into depth followed by a bright uplift—supporting breakthrough experiences.
Soma-pavamāna sequence in Soma sacrifice (pavitra/filtration verses used in Śrauta Soma rites such as Agniṣṭoma)
When Soma is strained for Indra’s offering; especially where Indra is invoked as receiver of Soma
Chant to direct the purified stream to Indra and to invoke revelation of hidden lights
Use when working with deep-seated habits/subconscient patterns—invoke descent, discovery, and lightning-like clarity.
Key roots: √yā ‘go’ (yayau perf. ‘has gone’); √vid with vi- ‘find/know clearly’ (viveda); √pū ‘purify’ (pavate, middle). Symbolic lexemes: go ‘cow’ from √gā/√gam ‘to go’ → ‘that which moves’ → ‘ray’ (moving light), hence ‘illumination/knowledge’; adri ‘stone/pressing-stone’ also ‘hardness’ of the inconscient; ūrú ‘wide’ → ūrve ‘in the wide (cavern/space)’ indicating vast inner expanse once opened.
R̥ta (ordered movement of the purified flow), Satya (satīḥ as true being), Satyam R̥tam Br̥hat (implicit: ascent from ‘highest’ into manifestation)
Right descent (from paramāt) into adri indicates lawful transformation of lower nature.
Paramāt implies truth-plane origin; revelation of cows is emergence of satya into life.
Revelation from concealment: light hidden in matter is released by divine action.
Integral Vedantic symbolism: involution (light hidden) and evolution (light recovered).
stormy twilight/dawn-like breakthrough (suggestive, not explicit)
monsoon imagery (clouds/thunder)
Descent into dense nature, discovery of hidden illumination, sudden breakthrough of insight.
Guide awareness from ‘highest’ (witness) into the densest sensation/emotion; search gently until hidden light appears; rest in the illuminated stream.
Sahasrāra (highest) to Mūlādhāra (stone/density) with return to Ājñā (lightning insight)
Slow descent breath: inhale from crown to base; exhale as a rising ‘stream’ to brow; pause briefly at brow for the ‘lightning’ moment.
Deep, inward, revelatory; capable of sudden insight
Do not force; let the mantra be the seeker (kūcit). Hold the ‘cave’ sensation; wait for a spontaneous flash of understanding, then stabilize it as a steady dhārā.
Vedic accents as per Śākala; exact udātta placement needs the accent-marked text.
Sustain clarity on ‘paramād antar adreḥ’ (descent phrase); brighten tone on ‘vidyut’ to match lightning imagery.
adreḥ: pronounce ‘dr’ cluster cleanly., ūrve: long ū., stanayanty: keep ‘nya’ palatal; avoid ‘stana-yanti’ separation.
Deep at the descent phrases, brightened on lightning simile
