ఈ సంక్షిప్త రెండు మంత్రాల సూక్తం పశువుల—ముఖ్యంగా గోవుల—రక్షణతో పాటు సంపదాభివృద్ధిని కలిగించే మంత్రచార్మం. మేతకు వెళ్లే మార్గంలోను, నీరు త్రాగే చోటను గోవులు క్షేమంగా ఉండేలా ఇది కాపాడుతుంది; అలాగే గోశాలకూ గృహాసనానికీ బలమైన రక్షాకవచాన్ని స్థాపిస్తుంది. ఇక్కడ రుద్రుడు సంహారకుడిగా కాక, అప్రమత్తమైన రక్షకుడిగా ఆహ్వానించబడతాడు; ఆయన “క్షిపణి” అపశకునాలను దూరం చేసే పరిమితి-రేఖగా నిలుస్తుంది. జలదేవతలు మరియు శుభదేవతలు గోవుల గుంపును, యజమాని పరిధిని శుద్ధి చేసి, అభ్యంగం చేసి, బలపరచమని ప్రార్థించబడతారు.

अघ्न्याः। प्र॒जाव॑तीः सू॒यव॑से रु॒शन्तीः॑ शु॒द्धा अ॒पः सु॑प्रपा॒णे पिब॑न्तीः । मा व॑ स्ते॒न ई॑शत॒ माघशं॑सः॒ परि॑ वो रु॒द्रस्य॑ हे॒तिर्वृ॑णक्तु
హే అఘ్న్యా (అవధ్య) గోవులారా! మీరు ప్రజావతులు; మంచి మేతకు వెళ్లుచూ ప్రకాశించువారు; శుద్ధులు; సు-ప్రపాణే (మంచి నీరు త్రాగు స్థలంలో) జలాన్ని పానము చేయువారు. మీపై దొంగకు అధికారము కలుగనీయకుము, దుష్టవాక్య నిందకునికీ కాదు; మీ చుట్టూ రుద్రుని హేతి (బాణం/ఆయుధం) రక్షకంగా ఎంచుకొని కాపాడుగాక.

హే పదజ్ఞా (పదచిహ్నాలు తెలిసిన), రమణీయులారా, సంహితులారా, విశ్వనామ్నీ (అన్ని నామాలతో పిలువబడే) దేవీగణమా! దేవులతో కలిసి నా దగ్గరకు రండి. ఈ గోష్ఠాన్ని, మా ఈ ఆసనాన్ని, ఘృతంతో సింఛండి; అలాగే మమ్మల్ని కూడా సంపూర్ణ అభిషేకంతో సिक्तం చేసి బలపరచండి.
