Sukta 9.29
सप्तिं मृजन्ति वेधसो गृणन्तः कारवो गिरा । ज्योतिर्जज्ञानमुक्थ्यम् ॥
saptíṃ mṛjanti vedháso gṛṇántaḥ kārávo girā́ | jyótiḥ jajñānám ukthyàm ||
वेधसो गृणन्तः कारवो गिरा सप्तिं मृजन्ति; ज्योतिर्-जज्ञानम् उक्थ्यम् (तम्) पवित्रयन्ति।
The seers who sing cleanse the coursing steed; the hymn-makers purify him with their word—him who is born as Light, worthy of the high chant.
The ‘steed’ (sapti) is Soma’s swift force in the vital being—energy that can run toward desire or toward the divine. The seers (vedhasaḥ), by mantra-utterance (girā), cleanse and redirect this force. As purification completes, Soma is revealed as jyotiḥ—light of consciousness—fit for uktha, the inspired utterance of realization (not mere speech but a seeing-word).
Our life-energy becomes luminous and rightly directed when it is repeatedly purified by truthful speech, mantra, and inspired intention; then energy itself is experienced as light.
Soma as steed, Mantric purification, Birth of Light, Inspired speech
Likely composed/compiled within a Soma-chanting milieu where mantra is both ritual speech and yogic instrument.
Highlights the Vedic method: purification through mantra—speech as a tool to cleanse and illumine energy (sapti) until it becomes jyotiḥ.
Mediator essence turning into light; supports the gods by becoming clarified radiance in the worlds.
Transforms raw vital speed into illumined force; makes mantra effective and revelation stable.
Pavamāna Soma filtration chants; also fits the role of stotra-like purification by singers

Likely Gāyatrī (3 x 8) or Jagatī variant; RV 9.29 often uses shorter meters—probable Gāyatrī here.
24
3 x 8 (approx.)
Quick, mantra-like, with a ‘polishing’ cadence—repetitive clarity.
Encourages mental brightness and disciplined direction of energy; supports a clean, ringing tone in recitation.
Chanting during Soma’s purification: the priests’ recitations accompany the filtering/clarifying of Soma.
During chanting as Soma is cleansed; also in contexts emphasizing the power of the word (uktha)
Singing/recitation by priests/chanters to ‘cleanse’ Soma and make it fit for offering
Use to purify one’s speech and vital drive: chant before difficult conversations or creative work to align energy with light.
mṛjanti < √mṛj ‘wipe/cleanse’; jajñānam < √jan ‘be born’; ukthya from uktha ‘solemn recitation’ (√vac/√ukṣ?—traditional derivation treats uktha as a liturgical ‘utterance’), marking Soma as fit for the highest voiced formulation. saptí ‘steed’ functions as a standard Vedic symbol for force-in-motion; Soma is ‘cleansed’ by inspired speech (gir), indicating a philological link between ritual purification and linguistic/mental refinement.
manifestation of Jyotis (illumined consciousness), speech (Vāc) as a purifier and formative power
The steed’s right course is ṛta; cleansing restores right direction.
Girā (word) becomes satya-vāk when it reveals jyoti rather than serving desire.
Light is ‘born’ from purified delight-force—creation through refinement.
Mantra-yoga and integral symbolism: speech-vibration reorganizes prāṇa into light.
dawn-like illumination (implicit via jyotiḥ)
Vital speed cleansed by mantra becomes a sunlit clarity within the lunar Soma-delight.
Observe the ‘steed’ of prāṇa: where does it run? With each repetition, ‘polish’ it by bringing it back to a single luminous point (jyoti) behind the forehead or in the heart.
Maṇipūra (vital power) refined toward Ājñā (light)
Box-breath 4-4-4-4 gently for 6 rounds, then chant; feel prāṇa become smooth and bright.
Collected, luminous attention.
After chanting, keep 60 seconds of silence; notice whether speech-thought becomes cleaner and less reactive; commit to one truth-sentence for the day.
Three-tone Vedic accents; exact svara positions require a svara-pāṭha edition.
Keep ‘saptiṃ mṛjanti’ crisp; sustain ‘jyotiḥ’; let ‘ukthyam’ land softly but distinctly.
saptiṃ: final ṃ as light anusvāra, mṛjanti: vocalic ṛ; clear j, vedhasaḥ: dh as aspirate; final ḥ audible, gṛṇantaḥ: vocalic ṛ; ṇ retroflex, kāravo: long ā, jyotiḥ: jyo as conjunct; final ḥ, jajñānam: jñ conjunct (gya/nya-like), avoid splitting too much, ukthyam: kth conjunct; y as glide
Clean, bright, slightly elevated pitch on ‘jyotiḥ’.
