Sukta 8.44
अग्निं दूतं पुरो दधे हव्यवाहमुप ब्रुवे । देवाँ आ सादयादिह ॥
agníṁ dūtáṁ puró dadhe havyavā́ham úpa bruve | devā́n ā́ sādayād ihá ||
अग्निं दूतं पुरो दधे, हव्यवाहमुप ब्रुवे। स देवाँ इह आ सादयात्॥
I place Agni in front as messenger and offering-carrier; may he seat the gods here.
Set the awakened Will (Agni) at the forefront of life (puro dadhe): let it lead decisions and actions. As dūta (messenger), Agni transmits human aspiration to the higher powers; as havyavāha, he carries the offerings—purified energies—upward. When Agni is established, he ‘seats the gods’ within: the divine faculties (illumined mind, bliss, vastness, harmony) take their place in the prepared inner space and begin to govern.
When the will is consecrated and placed first, higher powers can inhabit and organize the inner life.
Agni as messenger, invitation of the gods, installation of powers, yajña mechanics (inner)
A concise statement of the Vedic method: put Agni first, then the gods arrive—psychologically, establish will and aspiration, then higher faculties descend.
Intermediary who brings gods to the sacrifice; organizer of the rite and channel of ascent/descent.
Leader-will that calls down illumined forces and installs them in the consciousness.
Agni as dūta invocation; inviting devas to the yajña

3 × ~8 syllables (approx.)
Directive and establishing; feels like placing a pillar/foundation.
Gives a sense of inner alignment and ‘installation’—centering the will in front.
Agni as Hotṛ/Messenger at the opening of offerings; used to invite/establish devatās in the yajña-space.
At the stage of āvāhana (invitation) / establishing Agni as mediator
Recite while facing the fire; mentally invite divine powers into the rite
Use at the start of work or meditation: ‘place Agni in front’—set intention, then invite higher guidance into the situation.
√dhā ‘set’ marks installation of a power at the ‘front’ (puraḥ): leadership of will before other movements. Dūta encodes mediation—Agni translates human aspiration into divine reception. Havya-vāha: √vah (PIE *weǵh- ‘to convey/transport’, cf. English ‘weigh/wagon’ via Germanic pathways) underscores Agni as conveyor across planes. √sad in causative: to make the gods ‘sit’—to stabilize their forces in the rite and in the psyche.
mediation between worlds, manifestation (ā) of divine powers, stabilization/installation (sādana) of forces
Seating the gods is the establishment of Ṛta in the inner world—each power in its right place.
True speech/invocation (bruve) calls true presences, not imaginations.
Descent of higher powers into the human vessel via the mediator-fire.
Integral psychological theism: devas as cosmic principles active in the sadhaka.
Fire as bridge; ‘seating’ as stabilization of higher states in the nervous/mental system.
Front-place practice: bring attention to the central will; invite higher faculties to ‘take their seats’.
ajna
3 steady breaths; on each inhale ‘invite’, on exhale ‘establish’
aligned, executive calm
Silently repeat ‘puraḥ dadhe’ as a sankalpa; feel the will move to the front of the mind; then call in one deva-quality (clarity, strength, joy) to settle in the heart/head as a stable presence.
Keep invocatory lift on ‘agnim’ and ‘devān’; let ‘iha’ land softly as a settling.
Do not rush conjuncts: हव्यवाहम् (ha-vya-vā-ham); keep long ā in सादयात्.
दूतं: long ū, पुरो: ‘ro’ clear, not ‘rau’, ब्रुवे: ‘bru’ conjunct, light ‘r’, देवाँ: nasalization/anusvāra as per recensional practice
directive, steady; slightly more ‘commanding’ than pleading
