Sukta 7.3
एता नो अग्ने सौभगा दिदीह्यपि क्रतुं सुचेतसं वतेम । विश्वा स्तोतृभ्यो गृणते च सन्तु यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥
etā́ no agne sáubhagā didī́hy ápi krátuṃ su-cétasaṃ vatema | víśvā stotṛ́bhyo gṛṇaté ca santu yūyáṃ pāta svastíbhíḥ sádā naḥ ||
Agni, blaze these felicities for us; may we reach luminous understanding and will. Let all good things come to the praisers and singers; protect us always with well-being.
The prayer asks Agni to kindle saubhagā—harmonies of fortune and rightness—within the being, not as chance but as a radiance of the inner fire. The sought attainment is sucetasaṃ kratuṃ: a will that is clear-minded, luminous in understanding, capable of right decision and sustained effort. The ‘praisers and singers’ are the active faculties of aspiration and expression; the mantra asks that all helpful forces gather to them. ‘Svastibhiḥ’ are harmonizing powers—states of inner well-being and right alignment—by which Agni continuously guards the sadhaka.
Happiness that endures is a product of clarity and right will; when consciousness is aligned, protection comes as harmony, not mere defense.
Benediction, Auspiciousness, Right will, Protection
The Vasiṣṭha tradition often culminates praise in a request for clear kratu and svasti—inner rightness and harmony.
This is a practical sadhana-verse: it asks for the core yogic requirement—luminous will—along with stable well-being that supports endurance.
Bestower of auspicious order; kindler of right intelligence in action; guardian of the sacrificer.
The flame that turns aspiration into clear decision, and clear decision into harmonious life-movement.
Concluding benediction within an Agni hymn; suitable for ‘svasti’ closure of offerings.

Benedictive, balanced cadence; less martial, more harmonizing while retaining strength.
Soothes and clarifies; supports aspiration for right will and a settled protective peace.
Concluding benediction: prayer for auspiciousness and protection for the ritualists; suitable as a closing verse in Agni offerings.
At the end of recitation/offerings as an auspicious sealing prayer.
Final oblations and benediction for the patron/priests; protective closure.
Use as a closing mantra after meditation or study: to seal the session with clarity, goodwill, and protection in daily life.
सौभग: from su+bhaga ‘good share’ (bhaga: distributor of portions) → felicity as right allotment of divine powers. क्रतु: cognitive will; linked to √kṛ ‘do/make’ with formative -tu → capacity for effective action. चेतस्: from √cit ‘to perceive’ → consciousness; su-cetas ‘well-lit in awareness’. स्वस्ति: su+asti ‘good being’ → stable state of well-being.
Su-cetas (luminous consciousness), Kratú as effective truth-will, Svasti as stable good-being aligned with Rita
Svastis are harmonies of ṛta—right arrangement of forces in the being.
Sucetas kratu is will aligned with truth, not desire.
Agni ‘blazes’ felicities—creates supportive conditions for the evolution of consciousness.
Integral yoga orientation: right will and harmony as fruits of inner fire.
Fire = illumination; svasti = smooth flow of prāṇa and mind; saubhaga = fortunate alignment of inner forces.
Kindle inner felicity: recall one quality to blaze (clarity, courage, kindness) and offer it to Agni; then rest in svasti (harmonized calm).
Anahata (well-being/harmony) supported by Manipura (will)
4-6 breathing (inhale 4, exhale 6) to settle; chant on the exhale, ending with a silent pause on ‘sadā naḥ’.
Settled luminous goodwill; integration after effort.
Close practice by affirming: ‘May my will be sucetas—clear and true’; then extend goodwill to all inner parts (praisers/singers) so the whole nature cooperates.
Respect udatta marks; keep ‘saúbhagā didīhi’ bright; soften on ‘svastibhiḥ’.
Let each pāda end gently; emphasize ‘kratuṃ sucetasaṃ’ as the central aim.
एता: long ē; do not reduce to ‘eta’., दिदीहि: articulate di-dī-hi with long ī., सुचेतसम्: su-ce-ta-sam with clear dental t., स्वस्तिभिः: pronounce sva-sti-bhiḥ, not ‘su-asti’., यूयम्: long ū; keep y consonant clear.
Warm, blessing-like, even; avoid harsh attack on consonants.
