त्रिरुत्तमा दूणशा रोचनानि; त्रयो राजन्त्यसुरस्य वीराः। ऋतावान इषिरा दूळभासः—त्रिरा दिवो विदथे सन्तु देवाः॥
There are thrice the highest luminous realms, hard to assail; three heroes of the Asura reign there. Possessed of ṛta, impetuous and unconquerable—may these gods come thrice from heaven to our offering session.
The seer points to three supreme ‘rocanāni’—luminous planes of consciousness (often read as triple heaven). The ‘Asura’ here is the divine sovereign (not demonic): the Lord of being whose ‘heroes’ are the ruling powers (triadic Āditya-like forces) that guard and govern these realms. They are ṛtāvānaḥ—carriers of the Truth-Order—swift in effecting transformation and difficult for ignorance to overcome. The prayer is for their repeated descent into the inner sacrifice (vidatha), bringing the law and light of those planes into our active offering.
Higher consciousness is structured in levels; each level is guarded by principles of truth and sovereignty. Spiritual realization is a descent of these principles into human effort—again and again—until the lower nature becomes a fit field for the highest light.
Three heavens / three lights, Invocation of unconquerable powers, Truth-force descent
Vision of graded heavens and sovereign powers; emphasis on ṛta as the law of ascent and descent.
The rishi maps the spiritual topography (three luminous realms) and calls the governing powers to participate in the seeker’s offering—an early articulation of ‘descent of the higher into the lower’.
Guardians and rulers of the highest luminous realms; establish ṛta in the worlds and in the sacrifice.
Threefold sovereignty in the being: (1) illumination, (2) harmony/law, (3) right enjoyment/fulfilment—powers that make the upper light effective in life.
Invocatory verse within Savitṛ/Āditya context; suitable for calling deities to the vidatha (offering session).

Elevated and proclamatory; the opening enumerations create a ‘cosmic mapping’ feel.
Lifts awareness upward, then draws it down into the offering; evokes awe and invincibility.
Summoning of ṛta-possessing gods into vidatha; used as an invitatory for establishing protected luminous conditions in the rite.
At the commencement or intensification of an offering; also in contemplative recitation focused on higher worlds.
Invitation (āvāhana) of the gods from the luminous realms into the ritual space; affirmation of their ṛta-nature.
Use when feeling blocked: recall the ‘invincible’ truth-powers; invite them into the practice space before meditation or important decisions.
rocaná from √ruc ‘to shine’ → luminous realm. asura (early RV) from *asu ‘life-breath’ + -ra?; semantic: ‘lord of vital force/sovereign’ (later demonization is secondary). iṣirá from √iṣ ‘to rush, be strong/active’. dūḷabha ‘hard to overcome’ (dur- + √labh ‘to seize, obtain’) in Vedic sandhi/phonology.
Asura as sovereign being, inviolability of higher light, Ṛta as power, not merely rule
Explicit: the gods are ṛtāvānaḥ; realization is alignment with ṛta across levels.
The highest realms are ‘hard to assail’ because they are founded on satya; only truth can enter.
Worlds are stratified by luminosity; divine powers mediate between planes via repeated descent.
Aurobindonian layered-consciousness cosmology: higher planes + governing powers + descent into sadhana (inner yajña).
Rocanāni = illumined states; ‘descent thrice’ = repeated breakthroughs; vidatha = concentrated inner practice.
Contemplate three luminous levels above the head; invite their governing powers to descend into the heart of practice (vidatha).
sahasrāra (upper luminous realms) descending to ājñā and anāhata for governance and embodiment
3 ascending breaths (inhalation imagining ascent), then 3 descending breaths (exhalation imagining descent into the body).
High, spacious, awe-filled clarity; then grounded consecration.
Name the three needed powers (light, law/harmony, delight/fulfilment) and offer a concrete part of life to each for transformation.
Tri-svara; maintain uplift on rocanāni and ṛtāvānaḥ; let the final invitation ‘santu devāḥ’ land firmly.
Open the verse with measured grandeur; keep consonant clusters (duḥ-/dūḻ-) clear without haste.
rocanāni: ‘co’ as ‘cho’ not; keep ‘ca’ clear, ṛtāvānaḥ: vocalic ṛ clean and brief, iṣirāḥ: retroflex ṣ, duḥdabhāsaḥ: articulate duḥ + dabha (don’t swallow ḥ), vidathe: dental th
Elevated, resonant, spacious (as if chanting in a dome).
