Morning Rites Turn to Lament

कौसल्या च सुमित्रा च दृष्ट्वा स्पृष्ट्वा च पार्थिवम्। हा नाथेति परिक्रुश्य पेततुर्धरणीतले॥
Kausalya and Sumitra looked at the king, touched his body, cried aloud, 'Ah, lord' and collapsed on the floor.
It reflects marital fidelity and the bond of duty and affection (patnī-dharma), where the queens’ grief is an immediate, embodied response to the king’s death.
They reach Daśaratha, confirm his lifelessness by touch, and collapse in grief.
Devotion and loyalty—expressed through their direct, unmediated lament for their husband and king.
