अयोध्याकाण्डे त्रयोदशः सर्गः | Kaikeyi Presses the Boons; Dasaratha’s Lament and Collapse
एवमुक्त्वा ततो राजा कैकेयीं संयताञ्जलिः।।।।प्रसादयामास पुनः कैकेयीं चेदमब्रवीत्।
evam uktvā tato rājā kaikayīṃ saṃyatāñjaliḥ |
prasādayāmāsa punaḥ kaikayīṃ cedam abravīt |
एवमुक्त्वा ततः राजा संयताञ्जलिः कैकेयीं पुनः प्रसादयामास, कैकेयीं चेदमब्रवीत्।
Having said this, the king spoke again with folded hands to Kaikeyi in order to appease her:
Even amid anger, one may attempt conciliation to prevent greater harm; the verse shows a ruler trying to manage conflict through restraint rather than escalation.
After condemning Kaikeyī, Daśaratha shifts to pleading, approaching her with folded hands to soften her stance.
Self-control (saṃyama): despite humiliation and grief, Daśaratha attempts a measured, peace-seeking response.
