अथर्ववेदस्य ७.९ सूक्तं पूष्णः स्तुतिरूपं सुरक्षितयात्रायै पुनरुद्धाराय च। मार्गविदं देवं याचते—स यात्रिकस्य पुरतः गच्छतु, भयम् अपमार्जयतु, विपथगमनं च निवारयतु, शुभं गन्तव्यं च साधयतु। तथा पूष्णः पालकत्वं पुनरपि प्रसार्यते—यत् नष्टं (जनान्, पशून्, द्रव्याणि) तत् प्रत्याहरतु, यथा यात्रा च सामाजिकसन्ततिश्च अखण्डतया प्रवर्तेत।

स्वस्तिदा पूषा। प्रप॑थे प॒थाम॑जनिष्ट पू॒षा प्रप॑थे दि॒वः प्रप॑थे पृथि॒व्याः । उ॒भे अ॒भि प्रि॒यत॑मे स॒धस्थे॒ आ च॒ परा॑ च चरति प्रजा॒नन्
स्वस्तिदा पूषा प्रपथे पथाम् अजनिष्ट—प्रपथे दिवः, प्रपथे पृथिव्याः। उभे अभि प्रियतमे सधस्थे आ च परा च चरति प्रजानन्।

पू॒षेमा आशा॒ अनु॑ वेद॒ सर्वाः॑ सो अ॒स्माँ अभ॑यतमेन नेषत्। स्व॒स्ति॒दा आघृ॑णिः॒ सर्व॑वी॒रोऽप्र॑युच्छन् पु॒र ए॑तु प्रजा॒नन्
पूषेमा आशा अनु वेद सर्वाः सोऽस्मानभयतमेन नेषत्। स्वस्तिदा आघृणिः सर्ववीरोऽप्रयुच्छन् पुर एतु प्रजानन्॥

पूष॒न्तव॑ व्र॒ते व॒यं न रि॑ष्येम क॒दा च॒न। स्तो॒तार॑स्त इ॒ह स्म॑सि
हे पूषन्, तव व्रते वयं कदाचन न रिष्येम; इह वयं तव स्तोतारः स्मसि।
Mantra 4
परि॑ पू॒षा प॒रस्ता॒द्धस्तं॑ दधातु॒ दक्षि॑णम्। पुन॑र्नो न॒ष्टमाज॑तु॒ सं न॒ष्टेन॑ गमेमहि
परि पूषा परस्ताद् दक्षिणं हस्तं दधातु; पुनर्नो नष्टम् आजतु; नष्टेन सं नः गमेमहि।
Pūṣan is the Vedic guardian of paths and directions. This hymn calls him “welfare-giver” and asks him to go ahead of the traveler, remove fear, and guide by the safest route.
