अथर्वणाङ्गिरसपरम्परायां निबद्धः अयं संक्षिप्तो मन्त्रचक्रः द्विविधेन औषधिबलेन कार्यं साधयति—(१) मधुमय-यवकर्मणा प्रायश्चित्तं समृद्धिं च, (२) व्यक्तीकृत-शमीवृक्षस्य ‘माद’ इति विक्षोभकशक्त्या स्पर्धा-निग्रहं। अयं मन्त्रः शत्रुभूतं वा प्रतिस्पर्धि-वर्धनं (रूपकं च यथार्थं च) एकतः शमयति/अपाकरोति, अपरतः गृहानुग्रहं दृढयति—विशेषतः बालरक्षणं तथा केश-रूप-प्रसङ्गे सामाजिक-दौर्बल्यस्थानस्य शमनं।

पापशमनम्। देवा इमं मधुना संयुतं यवं सरस्वत्यामधि मणावचर्कृषुः। इन्द्र आसीत् सीरपतिः शतक्रतुः कीनाशा आसन् मरुतः सुदानवः।

हे शमि, यस्ते मदोऽवकेशो विकेशो येनाभिहस्यं पुरुषं करोषि—त्वत्तोऽरात् अन्यानि वनानि वृक्षि। त्वं तु शतवल्शा शमि, विरोह, विवर्धस्व।

बृहत्त्पलाशे सुभगे वर्षवृद्धे ऋतावरि । मातेव पुत्रेभ्यो मृड केशेभ्यः शमि ॥
