अथर्ववेदे ६.१३४ सूक्तं संक्षिप्तं राष्ट्रभृत्-अभिचारिकं मन्त्रः अस्ति, यत्र इन्द्रस्य वज्रः—जीवदण्डरूपेण दण्डकशक्तिरिव परिगृहीतः—राज्यरक्षणाय शत्रून् भित्त्वा भूमौ निखनितुं नियुज्यते। अत्र सीमापालनं राजकीयम्, प्राणहरणेन सह, योज्यते—शत्रोः प्राणाः प्रहृत्यापह्रियन्ते, तस्य गतिः अधो भूमौ नीयते, वज्रश्च सिमन्तपर्यन्तं तम् अनुधावितुं आज्ञाप्यते। अस्य सूक्तस्य विशेषोऽयं यत् छन्दोच्चारणमेव—विशेषतः उष्णिक्—कर्मसाधनं “उपकरणम्” इव निर्दिश्यते, येन वज्रस्य प्रभावः तीक्ष्णीभवति, इन्द्रस्य वृत्रवधस्य आदर्शं स्मारयन्।
