Sukta 9.81
prá sómasya pavamānasyórmaya índrasya yanti jaṭháraṃ su-péśasaḥ | dadhnā́ yad ī́m unnī́tā yaśásā gávāṃ dānā́ya śū́ram úd amandiṣuḥ sutā́ḥ ||
Soma offering to Indra with admixture (dadhi); energizing Indra for bestowal (dāna) in Soma sacrifice.
Transformation of substance into force (rasa → vīrya), Giving of light/knowledge (gāḥ as rays), Heroic will uplifted by delight
The well-formed waves indicate right rhythm; ṛta is experienced as ordered movement of delight.
‘Cows’ as truth-rays: knowledge released is satya made visible.
Ascent through nourishment: delight feeds light, light releases further light.
Aurobindonian: Soma-Ananda as fuel of Indra-illumination producing go-rāśi (knowledge-rays).
Waves = pranic-mental surges; curd = thickened concentration; belly = assimilation; cows = illuminations/insights; upward raising = ascent of consciousness.
Offer purified joy into the mind’s ‘digestive fire’ so it becomes strength and insight; then open to the release of ‘rays’.
Maṇipūra (assimilation) to Ājñā (illumination)
Inhale: ‘waves surge’; brief hold: ‘enter Indra’s belly’; exhale: ‘rays release upward’.
Exhilarated clarity with upward pull (udgama).
First evoke a calm sweetness; feel it rise in pulses; place attention in the solar plexus/heart-mind junction as the ‘belly’ of assimilation; let the joy become bright strength; then rest in the forehead space for the ‘cows’—quiet intuitions.
Observe accents (e.g.,,, ). The opening ‘pra’ benefits from a clear lift into the first accented word.
Let the first pāda surge continuously; place a gentle caesura after ‘jaṭharam’; emphasize ‘gavāṃ dānāya’ as the knowledge-release pivot.
‘jaṭharam’ keep ṭh aspirated and retroflex., ‘supeśasaḥ’ articulate ś clearly (palatal), not ṣ., ‘dadhnā’ keep dh voiced aspirate; long ā., ‘gavāṃ’ nasalize āṃ lightly.
Full, uplifting, with a slight crescendo toward the ‘giving of rays’.
