Devata

Aśvins

Inside Sukta 87

How it unfolds

  1. Where it opens

A radiant hymn calls the Aśvins to come quickly, likened to a swift sprinkling that summons them to the rite.

  2. Development

The invitation becomes concrete: sit on the barhis, drink the honeyed Soma, and approach the well-formed praise that strengthens them.

  3. Climax

The poets explicitly declare their purpose—invoking the many-wondrous twins for vājasāti (winning of strength/wealth) and for their answering attention.

  4. Where it settles

The hymn ends in confident appeal: may the gracious, powerful Aśvins come through inspired thought and through their responsive hearing.
