The powers yoke a tawny, radiant one moving on its circuit; around it the steadfast stand. The luminous regions in heaven shine.
The seeker’s inner faculties “yoke” the radiant dynamic Force (bradhná-aruṣá) of illumination so it can move in its ordered course (pari…carantam). When the will is harnessed to the higher Mind (Indra), stable powers of the being (tasthuṣaḥ: firm-standing) gather around as supports; then the planes of consciousness (rocanāḥ) blaze—inner heaven becomes lit.
Illumination is not accidental: it is yoked by disciplined intent. When the soul harnesses its energies to a higher intelligence, the stable parts of nature align, and the higher ranges of awareness naturally shine.
Light-manifestation, Solar symbolism, Cosmic order (Ṛta), Inner yoking (discipline of powers)
Early Viśvāmitra line; hymns of inspired clarity and energetic ascent, often linking Indra’s might with inner illumination.
Madhucchandas embodies the ‘madhu’ (honeyed) inspiration—vision that turns into effective force. In Aurobindo’s reading, such seers disclose the practical yoga of converting aspiration into illumined action.
Opens the luminous worlds, releases the rays, establishes the wide heaven of consciousness by breaking resistance.
The illumined Mind-Power that organizes and yokes energies into the right movement (ṛta) and makes higher light operative in the nature.
Indra-stotras in Soma-yajña sequences (general Indra praise; adaptable to pressing/offerings).

3 pādas × 8 syllables
Compact, driving, mantra-like clarity; quick turns that suit invocation and energizing insight.
Builds a focused upward push; supports concentration and a clean ‘lighting’ of attention.
Indra-stotra usage in Soma rites (general Soma-yajña context; praise to strengthen Indra for the winning of light/force).
During Indra invocations in Soma-related recitations; also as general morning praise where Indra’s help is sought.
Recitation/chant with offering intention—calling Indra to establish luminous order.
Use as a pre-meditation ‘yoking’ mantra: gather attention, align breath and will, then enter silent witnessing of inner light.
yuñjánti < √yuj ‘to yoke, join, harness’ (3pl pres. act.), implying disciplined linking of powers into a single movement. bradhnám: Vedic epithet ‘tawny/bright’, semantically tied to radiance (often solar); aruṣám from aruṣá ‘reddish, shining’ (solar/fire hue). cárantam < √car ‘to move, wander’ (pres. act. ptc. acc. sg.). pári ‘around’ (preverb). tasthúṣaḥ < √sthā ‘to stand’ (perf. ptc. nom. pl.), ‘those who have taken their stand’ = stable supporters. rócante < √ruc ‘to shine’ (3pl middle). rocanā́ from √ruc/roc ‘light, shining region’ (nom. pl. or collective), ‘luminous spaces/levels’. diví loc. sg. of dyú/div ‘heaven, the shining realm’ (< PIE *dyeu- ‘sky, brightness’).
Ṛta (ordered movement: yoking/harnessing into cosmic law), Satyam–Ritam–Bṛhat (truth-order-vastness implied by luminous ‘rocanā’ in div)
The ‘circling course’ (pari…carantam) suggests ordered movement—light moving by ṛta when properly yoked.
Truth as luminous seeing: when rocanā blaze, perception aligns with satya.
Manifestation of higher worlds through the harnessing of force; the shining realms become active when powers stand in harmony.
Proto-Vedāntic/Integral-Vedic (Aurobindonian): ascent to higher mind and descent of light into nature.
dawn-to-morning transition (implied by rocanā/divi imagery of rising light)
The sun’s course mirrors the circulation of illumined awareness through the being once yoked by discipline.
‘Yoking’ the mind to the luminous Force—collect attention at the brow and imagine a steady radiance moving in a calm circuit.
ājñā (brow)
gentle nāḍī-śodhana or equal breathing (4-4) before chanting
from scattered to collected; entry into illumined mental quiet
Chant once slowly to set intention, then feel the ‘steadfast powers’ as posture, ethics, and calm senses; rest in the rocanā—clear inner sky.
Mixed udatta/anudatta/svarita as per Śākala tradition; key lift on yuñjanti, bradhnam/aruṣam, and rocanā.
Keep the main rise on the verb (yuñjanti) and on the luminous nouns (bradhnam, rocanā); avoid flattening the final divi—let it resolve softly.
yuñ-janti: nasal ‘ñ’ before ‘j’, bradhnam: cluster ‘dhn’ articulated lightly (bra-dhnam), aruṣam: ‘ṣ’ retroflex, not dental ‘s’, rocante/rocanā: clear ‘ca’ (not ‘cha’)
bright, steady, forward resonance (brow-focused)
