This hymn praises the paired powers Indra and Agni as joint victors in Soma-sacrifice—Indra as conquering force and Agni as the blazing priestly will that carries the offering. It recalls their ancient deeds and uses riddle-like imagery to suggest that their divine energy can overturn limitation, then invites them to come and drink the pressed Soma while uplifting the hymn and the sacrificer.

Mantra 1
प्र नु वोचा सुतेषु वां वीर्या यानि चक्रथुः । हतासो वां पितरो देवशत्रव इन्द्राग्नी जीवथो युवम् ॥
मैं सोम रस में तुम्हारी ताकत बताता हूँ जो तुमने दिखाई। तुम्हारे बाप दादा जो भगवान के दुश्मन थे, वो मर गए। इंद्र और अग्नि, तुम दोनों ज़ि�दा हो।

बळित्था महिमा वामिन्द्राग्नी पनिष्ठ आ । समानो वां जनिता भ्रातरा युवं यमाविहेहमातरा ॥
इंद्र और अग्नि, तुम दोनों की ताकत बहुत बड़ी है। तुम दोनों में एक ही बाप है। तुम भाई-भाई हो, एक ही माँ से पैदा हुए। तुम दोनों जुड़ के काम करते हो।

ओकिवांसा सुते सचाँ अश्वा सप्ती इवादने । इन्द्रा न्वग्नी अवसेह वज्रिणा वयं देवा हवामहे ॥
जैसे दो घोड़े एक गाड़ी में जुड़े होते हैं, वैसे हम इंद्र और अग्नि को बुलाते हैं। सोम रस की पूजा में हम दोनों की मदद माँगते हैं। विजय की ताकत हम में आए।

य इन्द्राग्नी सुतेषु वां स्तवत्तेष्वृतावृधा । जोषवाकं वदतः पज्रहोषिणा न देवा भसथश्चन ॥
जो कोई इंद्र और अग्नि की पूजा करता है, सोम रस चढ़ा के उनका गुण गाता है, वो सच का काम बढ़ाता है। भगवान उसको कभी फेल नहीं करते। वो उसकी सुनते हैं।

इन्द्राग्नी को अस्य वां देवौ मर्तश्चिकेतति । विषूचो अश्वान्युयुजान ईयत एकः समान आ रथे ॥
इंद्र और अग्नि, कौन इंसान तुम दोनों को सच में समझता है? तुम दोनों अलग-अलग दिशा में चलते हो, पर एक ही रथ पर बैठे हो। एक ही गाड़ी चला रहे हो।

इन्द्राग्नी अपादियं पूर्वागात्पद्वतीभ्यः । हित्वी शिरो जिह्वया वावदच्चरत्त्रिंशत्पदा न्यक्रमीत् ॥
इंद्र और अग्नि, एक पुरानी शक्ति पैदा हुई। उसके पाँव नहीं थे, फिर भी चलने लगी। उसने अपना सर छोड़ा और जीभ से बात की। तीस कदम चल के नीचे उतरी।

इन्द्राग्नी आ हि तन्वते नरो धन्वानि बाह्वोः । मा नो अस्मिन्महाधने परा वर्क्तं गविष्टिषु ॥
इन्द्र और अग्नि, तुम दोनों अपनी बाहें फैला के धनुष पकड़ते हो, जैसे बहादुर योद्धा करते हैं। इस बड़े युद्ध में हमसे मत फटको। जब हम रोशनी की तलाश में हैं, तब हमारा साथ दो।

इन्द्राग्नी तपन्ति माघा अर्यो अरातयः । अप द्वेषांस्या कृतं युयुतं सूर्यादधि ॥
इन्द्र और अग्नि, मेरे ऊपर बुरी ताकतें और दुश्मन लोग आ रहे हैं। इनकी नफरत को दूर भगा दो। इन्हें रोशनी की दुनिया से अलग कर दो, जहाँ इनका कोई हक नहीं है।

इन्द्राग्नी युवोरपि वसु दिव्यानि पार्थिवा । आ न इह प्र यच्छतं रयिं विश्वायुपोषसम् ॥
इन्द्र और अग्नि, तुम्हारे पास दुनिया की सारी दौलत है, आसमान की भी और ज़मीन की भी। हमें भी कुछ दो जो पूरा जीवन भर काम आए और हमें आगे बढ़ाए।

इन्द्राग्नी उक्थवाहसा स्तोमेभिर्हवनश्रुता । विश्वाभिर्गीर्भिरा गतमस्य सोमस्य पीतये ॥
इन्द्र और अग्नि, तुम वोह हो जो हमारी आवाज़ सुनते हो और हमारे गाने उठा के ले जाते हो। अपने सारे गीत ले के इस सोम रस को पीने आओ। यह रस हमारे अंदर एक नई ताकत पैदा करता है।
