Sukta 62

Mantra 1

प्रो अस्मा उपस्तुतिं भरता यज्जुजोषति । उक्थैरिन्द्रस्य माहिनं वयो वर्धन्ति सोमिनो भद्रा इन्द्रस्य रातयः ॥

Bring forward to him the hymn of uplift, for he takes delight in it. With the chants the Soma-offerers increase Indra’s greatness and the growth of our being; auspicious are the gifts of Indra.

Mantra 2

अयुजो असमो नृभिरेकः कृष्टीरयास्यः । पूर्वीरति प्र वावृधे विश्वा जातान्योजसा भद्रा इन्द्रस्य रातयः ॥

Unyoked, unmatched among men, one alone, tireless—he has outgrown the many peoples. He has increased beyond the former limits; by his force he has mastered all that is born. Auspicious are the gifts of Indra.

Mantra 3

अहितेन चिदर्वता जीरदानुः सिषासति । प्रवाच्यमिन्द्र तत्तव वीर्याणि करिष्यतो भद्रा इन्द्रस्य रातयः ॥

Even with an unfriendly steed, the swift giver strives to win; O Indra, that is to be proclaimed—your heroic powers for the doer who would accomplish. Auspicious are the gifts of Indra.

Mantra 4

आ याहि कृणवाम त इन्द्र ब्रह्माणि वर्धना । येभिः शविष्ठ चाकनो भद्रमिह श्रवस्यते भद्रा इन्द्रस्य रातयः ॥

Come, O Indra; we would fashion for you the strengthening words of power. By these, O most impetuous, delighting, the good is won here as a thing of fame. Auspicious are the gifts of Indra.

Mantra 5

धृषतश्चिद्धृषन्मनः कृणोषीन्द्र यत्त्वम् । तीव्रैः सोमैः सपर्यतो नमोभिः प्रतिभूषतो भद्रा इन्द्रस्य रातयः ॥

Even of the daring you make the mind more daring, O Indra, when you are served with keen Soma and with acts of homage that set the being in readiness. Auspicious are the gifts of Indra.

Mantra 6

अव चष्ट ऋचीषमोऽवताँ इव मानुषः । जुष्ट्वी दक्षस्य सोमिनः सखायं कृणुते युजं भद्रा इन्द्रस्य रातयः ॥

The wise in hymns looks down like one who has the means, a human among humans. Having found delight in skill, the Soma-offerer makes Indra a comrade and a yoked ally. Auspicious are the gifts of Indra.

Mantra 7

विश्वे त इन्द्र वीर्यं देवा अनु क्रतुं ददुः । भुवो विश्वस्य गोपतिः पुरुष्टुत भद्रा इन्द्रस्य रातयः ॥

All the gods have given to you, O Indra, the heroic power in accordance with the will. You have become the guardian-lord of all becoming, O much-praised; auspicious are the gifts of Indra.

Mantra 8

गृणे तदिन्द्र ते शव उपमं देवतातये । यद्धंसि वृत्रमोजसा शचीपते भद्रा इन्द्रस्य रातयः ॥

I affirm and sing of that, O Indra—your surpassing force for the becoming of the divine powers within us: when by your might you strike down Vṛtra, O lord of the luminous intelligence. Auspicious are the gifts of Indra.

Mantra 9

समनेव वपुष्यतः कृणवन्मानुषा युगा । विदे तदिन्द्रश्चेतनमध श्रुतो भद्रा इन्द्रस्य रातयः ॥

As one who fashions forms, he has shaped the human ages. This perception of Indra is to be known; then he is heard within. Auspicious are the gifts of Indra.

Mantra 10

उज्जातमिन्द्र ते शव उत्त्वामुत्तव क्रतुम् । भूरिगो भूरि वावृधुर्मघवन्तव शर्मणि भद्रा इन्द्रस्य रातयः ॥

Up has arisen, O Indra, your force—up you, and up your will of effective intelligence. The bringers of plenitude have increased greatly in your peace and shelter, O bounteous one. Auspicious are the gifts of Indra.

Mantra 11

अहं च त्वं च वृत्रहन्त्सं युज्याव सनिभ्य आ । अरातीवा चिदद्रिवोऽनु नौ शूर मंसते भद्रा इन्द्रस्य रातयः ॥

I and you together, O slayer of Vṛtra, are yoked for the winning. Even the hostile will, O wielder of the thunderstone, follows our path of striving, O hero. Auspicious are the gifts of Indra.

Mantra 12

सत्यमिद्वा उ तं वयमिन्द्रं स्तवाम नानृतम् । महाँ असुन्वतो वधो भूरि ज्योतींषि सुन्वतो भद्रा इन्द्रस्य रातयः ॥

Truly indeed that Indra we praise, not falsehood. Great is the smiting for the one who does not press Soma; but for the Soma-presser there are many lights. Auspicious are the gifts of Indra.
