Sukta 34

Mantra 1

त्रिश्चिन्नो अद्या भवतं नवेदसा विभुर्वां याम उत रातिरश्विना । युवोर्हि यन्त्रं हिम्येव वाससोऽभ्यायंसेन्या भवतं मनीषिभिः ॥

Be with us even thrice today, O Aśvins, you who bring ever-new knowledge; wide is your coming and your gift. For yours is the harness like a winter garment—close-fitting and protective; become for our thinkers a swift help that draws near in time.

Mantra 2

त्रयः पवयो मधुवाहने रथे सोमस्य वेनामनु विश्व इद्विदुः । त्रयः स्कम्भासः स्कभितास आरभे त्रिर्नक्तं याथस्त्रिर्वश्विना दिवा ॥

Three are the fellies on your honey-bearing chariot; all follow the yearning of Soma. Three are the supporting pillars set for the mounting; thrice by night you travel and thrice by day, O Aśvins—so your ordered rhythms carry the seeker between darkness and light.

Mantra 3

समाने अहन्त्रिरवद्यगोहना त्रिरद्य यज्ञं मधुना मिमिक्षतम् । त्रिर्वाजवतीरिषो अश्विना युवं दोषा अस्मभ्यमुषसश्च पिन्वतम् ॥

On one and the same day, O Aśvins, slayers of the dark that holds back the rays of light, thrice you mingle our sacrifice with the honey of delight. Thrice you increase for us the impulsions rich in plenitude of force—by Night and by Dawn alike you foster them within us.

Mantra 4

त्रिर्वर्तिर्यातं त्रिरनुव्रते जने त्रिः सुप्राव्ये त्रेधेव शिक्षतम् । त्रिर्नान्द्यं वहतमश्विना युवं त्रिः पृक्षो अस्मे अक्षरेव पिन्वतम् ॥

Thrice come by the turning-path, thrice among men who hold to the vow of the Truth; thrice in the well-protected field of action, teach as if in a threefold way. Thrice bring the gladness, O Aśvins, and thrice make the sustaining streams swell in us like an unfailing flow.

Mantra 5

त्रिर्नो रयिं वहतमश्विना युवं त्रिर्देवताता त्रिरुतावतं धियः । त्रिः सौभगत्वं त्रिरुत श्रवांसि नस्त्रिष्ठं वां सूरे दुहिता रुहद्रथम् ॥

Thrice bring us the fullness of being, O Aśvins; thrice grant the divine status, and thrice protect our thoughts. Thrice give the happy fortune and thrice our widenesses of fame; the Daughter of the Sun mounts your three-seated chariot.

Mantra 6

त्रिर्नो अश्विना दिव्यानि भेषजा त्रिः पार्थिवानि त्रिरु दत्तमद्भ्यः । ओमानं शंयोर्ममकाय सूनवे त्रिधातु शर्म वहतं शुभस्पती ॥

Thrice give us, O Aśvins, the heavenly healings; thrice the earthly, and thrice those drawn out from the waters. Bring to the child of our house the protection that is peace and well-being; bear to him the threefold-founded shelter, O lords of beauty and harmony.

Mantra 7

त्रिर्नो अश्विना यजता दिवेदिवे परि त्रिधातु पृथिवीमशायतम् । तिस्रो नासत्या रथ्या परावत आत्मेव वातः स्वसराणि गच्छतम् ॥

Thrice each day, O adorable Aśvins, you encompass and set in its threefold foundation the earth of our being. O Nāsatyas, with your three chariot-paths from the far beyond, move like the very breath of life, going to the sister-lights (the Dawns).

Mantra 8

त्रिरश्विना सिन्धुभिः सप्तमातृभिस्त्रय आहावास्त्रेधा हविष्कृतम् । तिस्रः पृथिवीरुपरि प्रवा दिवो नाकं रक्षेथे द्युभिरक्तुभिर्हितम् ॥

Thrice, O Aśvins, with the rivers that have seven mothers, the three invocations are set, and the offering is fashioned in a threefold order. You guard the three earths, and above them the heaven’s summit, established by luminous days and by nights.

Mantra 9

क्व त्री चक्रा त्रिवृतो रथस्य क्व त्रयो वन्धुरो ये सनीळाः । कदा योगो वाजिनो रासभस्य येन यज्ञं नासत्योपयाथः ॥

Where are the three wheels of your triple-turning chariot, and where the three seats bound together in one dwelling? When will the yoking of the forceful ass be ready, by which, O Nāsatyas, you come near to the sacrifice?

Mantra 10

आ नासत्या गच्छतं हूयते हविर्मध्वः पिबतं मधुपेभिरासभिः । युवोर्हि पूर्वं सवितोषसो रथमृताय चित्रं घृतवन्तमिष्यति ॥

Come, O Nāsatyas; the offering is being called—drink the honeyed essence with honey-drinking mouths. For Savitṛ, before you, urges the Dawn’s chariot—bright and filled with ghee—for the Truth (ṛta).

Mantra 11

आ नासत्या त्रिभिरेकादशैरिह देवेभिर्यातं मधुपेयमश्विना । प्रायुस्तारिष्टं नी रपांसि मृक्षतं सेधतं द्वेषो भवतं सचाभुवा ॥

Come here, O Nāsatyas, with the thrice-eleven gods; come, O Aśvins, to drink the honeyed draught. Extend our life-force to its safe crossing; wipe away the stains, repel hostility, and become companions in our becoming.

Mantra 12

आ नो अश्विना त्रिवृता रथेनार्वाञ्चं रयिं वहतं सुवीरम् । शृण्वन्ता वामवसे जोहवीमि वृधे च नो भवतं वाजसातौ ॥

Come to us, O Aśvins, with your triple-coursing chariot, bringing a wealth that turns toward us—rich in heroic energies. Hearing, I call you for help; be for our increase and for the winning of plenitude of force.
