Sukta 3.28
अग्ने जुषस्व नो हविः पुरोळाशं जातवेदः । प्रातःसावे धियावसो ॥
ágné juṣásva no havíḥ puroḷā́śaṃ jātavedāḥ | prātáḥ-sā́ve dhiyāvaso ||
Agni, accept our offering—the well-prepared puroḻāśa cake—O Jātavedas. In the morning pressing, O you who dwell with inspired thought, (be present for us).
The ‘puroḻāśa’ is not only a ritual cake but symbolically a carefully prepared substance of the being—refined energies, purified intentions—made ready for consecration. Jātavedas is Agni as knower of all births: he knows the origins and movements of our thoughts, impulses, and formations, and can therefore purify at the root. ‘Prātaḥ-sāva’ (morning pressing) corresponds inwardly to the first awakening of consciousness: the early, fresh moment when inspiration (dhī) can be increased and set in right motion before the day’s inertia and distractions gather.
Offer the day at its beginning: when intention is freshly formed, consecrate it to the inner fire that knows your deepest origins, and let inspired intelligence lead your actions.
Agni-invocation, Soma-pressing (morning), Oblation-and-acceptance, Inner sacrifice (adhyātma-yajña)
The Viśvāmitra corpus often links Agni with dhī (inspired intelligence) and with the right beginning of the journey—opening the day/rite with consecration.
The seer emphasizes prepared offering and morning awakening: a practical yoga of beginning rightly, so dhī can govern life.
Knower and guardian of manifestation; receiver and transmitter of offerings; awakener of inspired thought at the threshold of action.
Discerning fire that perceives the origin of impulses and can transform them; awakens dhī and consecrates the day’s movement.
Prātaḥ-savana (morning Soma pressing) with Agni receiving offerings; also general havis-offering context

Triṣṭubh (predominant; minor variation possible by recension)
44
4 x ~11 syllables (Vedic flexibility; compound-heavy pādas may show resolution)
Measured, invitational cadence—less martial, more consecratory.
Settles the mind into reverent readiness; supports a ‘morning’ freshness and clarity for practice.
Soma sacrifice context: invitation to Agni to accept oblations at the morning pressing (prātaḥ-savana); also usable in Agni-focused offerings with puroḷāśa in Śrauta settings
Morning pressing; opening of the day’s sacrificial sequence
Presenting puroḷāśa/havis to Agni with invocation for dhī (inspired thought)
A morning mantra: before work/meditation, offer the day (havis) to inner Agni; set an intention for inspired clarity rather than reactive habit.
Key terms: juṣasva (2sg imp. middle) from √juṣ ‘to enjoy, approve, favor’—in Vedic often ‘accept (offering) and empower it’. haviḥ from √hu ‘to pour/offer’; the offering is the substance of aspiration. puroḷāśa (ritual cake) likely ‘puro-’ (fore/first) + √laś/raś? (uncertain; traditional ritual term); here treated symbolically as ‘formed oblation’. jātavedas: jāta ‘born’ (√jan ‘be born, generate’) + vedas (√vid ‘to know’)—Agni as omniscient knower of manifestations. dhī (√dhī ‘to think, to envision’) in RV is inspired thought/vision; -vasu ‘wealth’ (√vas ‘to dwell/shine’; vasu as ‘good, excellent, treasure’).
Ṛta (right order expressed as correct offering and right awakening), Tapas (kindling of inner heat through Agni), Dhī (inspired intelligence/vision)
Morning consecration aligns the day’s movements with ṛta—right rhythm and right action.
Jātavedas knows the truth of origins; offering becomes truthful when it acknowledges and purifies motives at birth.
Birth and rebirth of movements: Agni as knower of births guides formation toward truth.
Vedic yoga of consecration (karma as yajña) anticipating later Vedāntic/yogic disciplines of offering and purification.
morning
Morning = first awakening of awareness; pressing = extracting essence (soma/bliss) from experience; cake = formed substance of disciplined nature; fire = consecrating will.
Morning consecration: offer the prepared substance of the day—plans, energies, emotions—into Jātavedas for purification at the source; invite dhī to lead.
Anāhata (offering/consent) with Maṇipūra (consecrated will)
Morning settling: 6 slow breaths; on inhale feel ‘awakening’; on exhale offer into a warm flame at heart/solar plexus.
Fresh, sattvic, receptive; intuition-led readiness for action.
At waking: (1) sit 2 minutes, (2) chant once slowly, (3) visualize a small steady flame, (4) place one ‘puroḷāśa’—a well-formed intention—into it, (5) ask Jātavedas to reveal the true motive and purify it, (6) begin the day from dhī rather than habit.
Use Vedic accents as preserved; keep ‘agne juṣasva no haviḥ’ as a clear opening call; let ‘jātavedaḥ’ carry a distinct accentual prominence; ‘prātaḥ-sāve’ lightly lifts as morning cue.
Open with a steady udātta rise on ‘agne’; soften into an offering tone on ‘juṣasva’; brighten slightly on ‘prātaḥ’.
juṣasva: retroflex ṣ; avoid ‘jush’—keep ‘ju-ṣa’ clear, puroḷāśam: retroflex ḷ; long ā; separate pu-ro-ḷā-śam, jātavedaḥ: long ā; ‘veda’ with soft ‘v’, prātaḥ: long ā; visarga light aspiration, sāve: long ā; ‘v’ soft, dhiyāvaso: ‘dhiyā’ as dhi-yā; avoid merging into ‘jiyā’
Warm, devotional, morning-soft yet clear; maintain purity of vowels.
