अथर्ववेदस्य द्वादशः काण्डः ‘विश्व-समाज’स्वरूपः सुदृढः; यत्र पृथिव्याः स्थैर्ये धर्मः, विधिः, यज्ञकर्म, गृहस्थाश्रमस्य सम्यग्व्यवस्था च प्रतिष्ठाप्यते। आरम्भे विस्तीर्णं पृथिवीसूक्तम् (१२.१) वर्तते—तत् भूमिं सत्यस्य, ऋतस्य, धर्मस्य च विश्वाधारत्वेन पवित्रयति; देश-निवासं, सीमाव्यवस्थां, शौचं, पितृनिवासपरम्परां, गृह-ग्रामयोः क्षेमं च पृथिव्याः धारकशक्त्या संबध्नाति। अनन्तराणि सूक्तानि तस्यैव आधारस्य कृषिपाशुपाल्यसमृद्धौ विस्तारं कुर्वन्ति—विशेषतः गोमातुः पावनत्वं, क्षेत्राणां सस्यवृद्धिः, बीजवपन-लाभः, सस्यरक्षा, तथा जनसमुदायस्य क्षेम-रक्षणं च।
