Кāṇḍа 18 Атхарваведы — великое ведийское собрание Антьеṣṭи (погребально-кремационной) литургии, которое посредством мантр, подношений и соотнесения с предками проводит умершего из пограничной опасности смерти в упорядоченную область Питṛов. Её четыре сукты, часто связываемые с последовательностью Питṛмедхи/кремации, соединяют распад тела, перенесение Агни и дальнейший путь души с ṛta, так что смерть становится ритуально постижимым переходом, а не разрывом.
