Nārada’s Account of a Former Birth and a Hymn to Nārāyaṇa
iti stuto devavaraḥ prasanno jagāda māṁ nīradatulyaghoṣaḥ | varaṁ vṛṇīṣvety asakṛt tato 'haṁ tasyaiva dehe layam iṣṭavāṁś ca || 3.21 ||
Unspecified (defaulting to the primary dialogue framework: Pṛthivī as narrator responding to Varāha)
It exemplifies a common Purāṇic narrative pattern: praise (stuti) leading to divine favor and the offering of a boon, reflecting the didactic-dialogic style used to transmit cosmological and philosophical themes.
No geographic location is named in this verse; it is focused on dialogue and the boon motif rather than sacred geography.
The verse foregrounds reciprocity and restraint in discourse: praise leads to gracious response, while the request for “laya” highlights a philosophical aspiration toward union/absorption rather than material gain.
