The Greatness of the Śālagrāma Sacred Region
vājapeyaphalaṃ bhuktvā mama lokaṃ ca gacchati || tatra viṣṇupadaṃ nāma kṣetraṃ guhyaṃ paraṃ mama
Varāha
It exemplifies a common Purāṇic strategy: mapping ritual merit (here, Vājapeya) onto sacred geography by associating a named kṣetra with an exalted post-mortem destiny.
The verse names a site called “Viṣṇupada.” Without further internal markers in this excerpt, a precise modern identification remains uncertain and should be cataloged as a toponym requiring cross-textual comparison.
The passage frames disciplined ritual and pilgrimage as culturally valued practices, emphasizing intentional conduct linked to place-based heritage.
