Exposition of the Glory of the Mandāra Sacred Grove
Varāha
It illustrates Purāṇic ‘mythic historicization,’ where sacred sites are anchored to yuga-based narrative time and linked to widely known cultural figures such as Rāma.
The verse refers back to Mandāra (previously located near Jāhnavī and the Vindhyas) as the setting for a Tretāyuga episode.
Rather than a direct injunction, it legitimizes a site through narrative memory, a mechanism by which communities preserve and transmit heritage landscapes.
