भरतस्य मातृसदनगमनं कैकेय्या दारुणवृत्तान्तकथनं च

न ब्राह्मणधनं किञ्चिद्धृतं रामेण कस्यचित्कश्चिन्नाढ्यो दरिद्रो तेनापापो विहिंसितः।न रामः परदारांश्च चक्षुर्भ्यामपि पश्यति।।2.72.48।।
na brāhmaṇadhanaṁ kiñcid dhṛtaṁ rāmeṇa kasyacit | kaścin nāḍhyo daridro vā tenāpāpo vihiṁsitaḥ | na rāmaḥ paradārāṁś ca cakṣurbhyām api paśyati || 2.72.48 ||
രാമൻ ആരുടെയെങ്കിലും ബ്രാഹ്മണധനം അണുമാത്രം പോലും പിടിച്ചെടുത്തിട്ടില്ല; ധനവാനായാലും ദരിദ്രനായാലും ഒരു നിർദോഷനെയും പാപമായി ഹിംസിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. കൂടാതെ രാമൻ പരസ്ത്രീയെ കണ്ണുകൊണ്ടുപോലും നോക്കുകയില്ല.
