I desire to accomplish the welfare of this entire world which deserves the happiness brought about by the rule of all the Ikshvaku kings.
A king frames his legitimacy as continuity of a righteous lineage and as commitment to universal welfare, not personal gain.
Contemplation on seva-bhāva and stewardship: aligning one’s role with the welfare of the whole.
Kartṛtva-bhāva (sense of agency) harnessed toward loka-hita; the ruler as instrument of ṛta/dharma rather than private desire.
Ṛta as sustaining order (implicit); the ideal of acting for the whole (sarva-bhūta-hita) resonates with later dharma- and yoga-discourses.
Mahābhārata ānti Parva: rājadharma passages on protecting the world/subjects; Bhagavad Gītā 3.20-26 (loka-saṃgraha ideal; thematic parallel)
Vedic ideal of ṛta/dharma upheld by the kṣatriya
Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa Ayodhyākāṇḍa: Daśaratha’s self-presentation as protector prior to succession
Anuṣṭubh
Solemn
Madhyama (middle register)
Rājadharma: the king’s duty is to pursue śreyas (true welfare) for the whole realm, ensuring the people’s happiness as a moral responsibility, not merely political success.
Daśaratha reflects on the Ikṣvāku tradition of righteous rule and expresses his intention to act for the world’s welfare—foreshadowing the decision to install Rama as heir-apparent.
Daśaratha’s sense of duty and public-mindedness—placing the common good (śreyas of the world) above personal comfort.
