Mantra 1

मणिबन्धनम्। अरातीयोर्भ्रातृव्यस्य दुर्हार्दो द्विषतः शिरः । अपि वृश्चाम्योजसा

The binding on of the jewel. The head of the hostile rival, hard to be held, the hater’s head—this I hew away with might.

Mantra 2

वर्म मह्यमयं मणिः फालाज्जातः करिष्यति । पूर्णो मन्थेन मागमद् रसेन सह वर्चसा

This amulet, born of the ploughshare, shall make for me a coat of mail. Full-charged by churning, let it not depart—together with sap and with splendour.

Mantra 3

यत् त्वा शिक्वः परावधीत् तक्षा हस्तेन वास्या । आपस्त्वा तस्मज्जीवलाः पुनन्तु शुचयः शुचिम्

What hurt the craftsman dealt thee—what the carpenter with hand and adze—therefrom let the Waters, life-bestowing, cleanse thee, pure ones cleansing thee to purity.

Mantra 4

हिरण्यस्रगयं मणिः श्रद्धां यज्ञं महो दधत्। गृहे वसतु नोऽतिथिः

This gold-garlanded amulet, bestowing faith, sacrifice, and greatness—let it dwell in our house, a guest of honour.

Mantra 5

तस्मै घृतं सुरां मध्वन्नमन्नं क्षदामहे । स नः पितेव पुत्रेभ्यः श्रेयःश्रेयश्चिकित्सतु भूयोभूयः श्वःश्वो देवेभ्यो मणिरेत्य

To him we deal ghee, surā, honey, food—yea food in plenty. Like a father, let him for our sons tend ever better welfare, again and again, day after day: from the Gods the amulet goes forth.

Mantra 6

यमबध्नाद् बृहस्पतिर्मणिं फालं घृतश्चुतमुग्रं खदिरमोजसे । तमग्निः प्रत्यमुञ्चत सो अस्मै दुह आज्यं भूयोभूयः श्वःश्वस्तेन त्वं द्विषतो जहि

The amulet which Bṛhaspati bound on—ploughshare, ghee-dripping, fierce, of khadira, for strength—this Agni gave back in turn; and it yields to him ghee, again and again, day after day. With that do thou smite the haters.

यमबध्नाद् बृहस्पतिर्मणिं फालं घृतश्चुतमुग्रं खदिरमोजसे । तमिन्द्रः प्रत्यमुञ्चतौजसे वीर्याऽय कम्। सो अस्मै बलमिद् दुहे भूयोभूयः श्वःश्वस्तेन त्वं द्विषतो जहि

The amulet which Bṛhaspati bound on—a plate, ghee-dropping, fierce, of khadira-wood—for vital force: that Indra, in return, unloosed for vigor, for heroic might, for him. It yields him strength indeed, again and yet again, day after day: with that do thou smite the haters.

यमबध्नाद् बृहस्पतिर्मणिं फालं घृतश्चुतमुग्रं खदिरमोजसे । तं सोमः प्रत्यमुञ्चत महे श्रोत्राय चक्षसे । सो अस्मै वर्च इद् दुहे भूयोभूयः श्वःश्वस्तेन त्वं द्विषतो जहि

The amulet which Bṛhaspati bound on—a plate, ghee-dropping, fierce, of khadira-wood—for vital force: that Soma, in return, unloosed for great hearing and for sight. It yields him splendour indeed, again and yet again, day after day: with that do thou smite the haters.

यमबध्नाद् बृहस्पतिर्मणिं फालं घृतश्चुतमुग्रं खदिरमोजसे । तं सूर्यः प्रत्यमुञ्चत तेनेमा अजयद् दिशः । सो अस्मै भूतिमिद् दुहे भूयोभूयः श्वःश्वस्तेन त्वं द्विषतो जहि

The amulet which Bṛhaspati bound on—a plate, ghee-dropping, fierce, of khadira-wood—for vital force: that Sūrya, in return, unloosed; thereby he conquered these quarters. It yields him prosperity indeed, again and yet again, day after day: with that do thou smite the haters.

यमबध्नाद् बृहस्पतिर्मणिं फालं घृतश्चुतमुग्रं खदिरमोजसे । तं बिभ्रच्चन्द्रमा मणिमसुराणां पुरोऽजयद् दानवानां हिरण्ययीः । सो अस्मै श्रियमिद् दुहे भूयोभूयः श्वःश्वस्तेन त्वं द्विषतो जहि

The amulet which Bṛhaspati bound on—a plate, ghee-dropping, fierce, of khadira-wood—for vital force: bearing that amulet, the Moon conquered the strongholds of the Asuras, the golden (holds) of the Dānavas. It yields him fortune indeed, again and yet again, day after day: with that do thou smite the haters.

यमबध्नाद् बृहस्पतिर्वाताय मणिमाशवे । सो अस्मै वाजिन दुहे भूयोभूयः श्वःश्वस्तेन त्वं द्विषतो जहि

The amulet which Bṛhaspati bound on for Vāta, the swift—this yields him winning might, again and yet again, day after day: with that do thou smite the haters.

Mantra 12

यमबध्नाद् बृहस्पतिर्वाताय मणिमाशवे । तेनेमां मणिना कृषिमश्विनावभि रक्षतः । स भिषग्भ्यां महो दुहे भूयोभूयः श्वःश्वस्तेन त्वं द्विषतो जहि

The amulet which Bṛhaspati bound on for Vāta, the swift—therewith, with this amulet, the Aśvins guarded the ploughing. It, through the two Physicians, milks out great gain again and yet again, day after day: with that do thou smite the haters.

यमबध्नाद् बृहस्पतिर्वाताय मणिमाशवे । तं बिभ्रत् सविता मणिं तेनेदमजयत् स्वः । सो अस्मै सूनृतां दुहे भूयोभूयः श्वःश्वस्तेन त्वं द्विषतो जहि

The amulet which Bṛhaspati bound on for Vāta, the swift—bearing that amulet, Savitar therewith won this, even svàr. It milks out for him fair speech again and yet again, day after day: with that do thou smite the haters.

यमबध्नाद् बृहस्पतिर्वाताय मणिमाशवे । तमापो बिभ्रतीर्मणिं सदा धावन्त्यक्षिताः । स आभ्योऽमृतमिद् दुहे भूयोभूयः श्वःश्वस्तेन त्वं द्विषतो जहि

The amulet which Bṛhaspati bound on for Vāta, the swift—bearing that amulet, the Waters, unexhausted, run ever on. From them it milks out immortality indeed, again and yet again, day after day: with that do thou smite the haters.

यमबध्नाद् बृहस्पतिर्वाताय मणिमाशवे ।तं राजा वरुणो मणिं प्रत्यमुञ्चत शंभुवम्। सो अस्मै सत्यमिद् दुहे भूयोभूयः श्वःश्वस्तेन त्वं द्विषतो जहि

The amulet which Bṛhaspati bound on for Vāta, the swift—that beneficent amulet King Varuṇa set in due wise. It milks out for him truth indeed, again and yet again, day after day: with that do thou smite the haters.

यमबध्नाद् बृहस्पतिर्वाताय मणिमाशवे । तं देवा बिभ्रतो मणिं सर्वांल्लोकान् युधाजयन्। स एभ्यो जितिमिद् दुहे भूयोभूयः श्वःश्वस्तेन त्वं द्विषतो जहि

The amulet which Bṛhaspati bound on for Vāta, the swift—bearing that amulet, the Gods by battle won all worlds. It milks out for them victory indeed, again and yet again, day after day: with that do thou smite the haters.

यमबध्नाद् बृहस्पतिर्वाताय मणिमाशवे । तमिमं देवता मणिं प्रत्यमुञ्चन्त शंभुवम्। स आभ्यो विश्वमिद् दुहे भूयोभूयः श्वःश्वस्तेन त्वं द्विषतो जहि

Whom Bṛhaspati bound on, the swift-working amulet, for Vāta;—this same amulet the Gods, in counter-set, have fastened on, the beneficent. From these it verily milks forth all good, again and yet again, day after day: therewith do thou smite down the haters.

Mantra 18

ऋतवस्तमबध्नतार्तवास्तमबध्नत । संवत्सरस्तं बद्ध्वा सर्वं भूतं वि रक्षति

The Seasons bound it on; the seasonal powers bound it on. The Year, having bound it fast, doth guard apart and wholly every living being.

Mantra 19

अन्तर्देशा अबध्नत प्रदिशस्तमबध्नत । प्रजापतिसृष्टो मणिर्द्विषतो मेऽधराँ अकः

The mid-regions bound it on; the quarters bound on that amulet. The mani, created of Prajāpati, hath made my haters lower down beneath.

अथर्वाणो अबध्नताथर्वणा अबध्नत । तौर्मेदिनो अङ्गिरसो दस्यूनां बिभिदुः पुरस्तेन त्वं द्विषतो जहि

The Atharvans bound it on; by Atharvan was it bound on. The Taurmedin Aṅgirases brake open the strongholds of the Dasyus: therewith do thou smite down the haters.

Mantra 21

तं धाता प्रत्यमुञ्चत स भूतं व्यऽकल्पयत्। तेन त्वं द्विषतो जहि

Dhātṛ set on that amulet in counter-wise; and he set in order the world of being. Therewith do thou smite down the haters.

यमबध्नाद् बृहस्पतिर्देवेभ्यो असुरक्षितिम्। स मायं मणिरागमद् रसेन सह वर्चसा

Whom Bṛhaspati bound on for the Gods, (to win) the Asura’s stronghold—this Jewel came hither with its wondrous power, together with essence and with splendour.

Mantra 23

यमबध्नाद् बृहस्पतिर्देवेभ्यो असुरक्षितिम्। स मायं मणिरागमत् सह गोभिरजाविभिरन्नेन प्रजया सह

Whom Bṛhaspati bound on for the Gods, (to win) the Asura’s stronghold—this Jewel came hither with its wondrous power, together with cows, with goats and sheep, with food, together with offspring.

Mantra 24

यमबध्नाद् बृहस्पतिर्देवेभ्यो असुरक्षितिम्। स मायं मणिरागमत् सह व्रीहियवाभ्यां महसा भूत्या सह

Whom Bṛhaspati bound on for the Gods, (to win) the Asura’s stronghold—this Jewel came hither with its wondrous power, together with rice and barley, with greatness, together with thriving weal.

Mantra 25

यमबध्नाद् बृहस्पतिर्देवेभ्यो असुरक्षितिम्। स मायं मणिरागमन्मधोर्घृतस्य धारया कीलालेन मणिः सह

Whom Bṛhaspati bound on for the Gods, (to win) the Asura’s stronghold—this Jewel came hither with its wondrous power, with honey, with a stream of ghee, together with kīlāla, the Jewel (itself) accompanying.

Mantra 26

यमबध्नाद् बृहस्पतिर्देवेभ्यो असुरक्षितिम्। स मायं मणिरागमदूर्जया पयसा सह द्रविणेन श्रिया सह

Whom Bṛhaspati bound on for the Gods, (to win) the Asura’s stronghold—this Jewel came hither with its wondrous power, together with strength and milk, with wealth, together with Fortune.

Mantra 27

यमबध्नाद् बृहस्पतिर्देवेभ्यो असुरक्षितिम्। स मायं मणिरागमत् तेजसा त्विष्या सह यशसा कीर्त्याऽ सह

Whom Bṛhaspati bound fast for the Gods—the Asura’s strong domain—thence came the Jewel, the Māyā, endowed with fiery might, with flashing splendour, with fame, with glory joined.

Mantra 28

यमबध्नाद् बृहस्पतिर्देवेभ्यो असुरक्षितिम्। स मायं मणिरागमत् सर्वाभिर्भूतिभिः सह

Whom Bṛhaspati bound for the Gods—the Asura’s fastness—thence came the Jewel, the Māyā, attended with all prosperities together.

Mantra 29

तमिमं देवता मणिं मह्यं ददतु पुष्टये । अभिभुं क्षत्रवर्धनं सपत्नदम्भनं मणिम्

Let the Gods bestow on me this Jewel, that same, for nourishment—overpowering, strength-increasing, rival-crushing, the Jewel.

Mantra 30

ब्रह्मणा तेजसा सह प्रति मुञ्चामि मे शिवम्। असपत्नः सपत्नहा सपत्नान् मेऽधरां अकः

With brahman, with fiery might conjoined, I set forth for me auspicious welfare: rival-less, rival-slaying—make thou my rivals lower down.

Mantra 31

उत्तरं द्विषतो मामयं मणिः कृणोतु देवजाः । यस्य लोका इमे त्रयः पयो दुग्धमुपासते । स मायमधि रोहतु मणिः श्रैष्ठ्याय मूर्धतः

Higher than the hater let this Jewel, God-born, make me. Whose are these three worlds that wait on him with milk, with draughts well-drawn—let that Jewel mount upon me, Māyā, for supremacy, upon my head.

Mantra 32

यं देवाः पितरो मनुष्याऽ उपजीवन्ति सर्वदा। स मायमधि रोहतु मणिः श्रैष्ठ्याय मूर्धतः

He on whom Gods, Fathers, and mankind evermore subsist—let that Jewel mount upon me with its wondrous power, from the head, for highest excellence.

Mantra 33

यथा बीजमुर्वरायां कृष्टे फालेन रोहति । एवा मयि प्रजा पशवोऽन्नमन्नं वि रोहतु

As seed in the fertile field, when cleft by the ploughshare, springeth up—so in me let progeny, cattle, and food, yea food upon food, grow forth abundantly.

Mantra 34

यस्मै त्वा यज्ञवर्धन मणे प्रत्यमुचं शिवम्। तं त्वं शतदक्षिण मणे श्रैष्ठ्याय जिन्वतात्

Whom I have bound thee upon, O Jewel, increaser of sacrifice, benign—him do thou, O hundred-fee Jewel, quicken unto highest excellence.

Mantra 35

एतमिध्मं समाहितं जुषाणो अग्ने प्रति हर्य होमैः । तस्मिन् विदेम सुमतिं स्वस्ति प्रजां चक्षुः पशून्त्समिद्धे जातवेदसि ब्रह्मणा

This well-ordered fuel, O Agni, graciously accepting, take thou in answer with our oblations. In thee may we obtain good favor and welfare—progeny, sight, and cattle—when thou art kindled, O Jātavedas, by sacred prayer.

It is a jewel/amulet treated as a personified protective power. The hymn consecrates its binding so it actively guards the wearer and generates vitality (ojas) and radiance (varcas).

Its main orientation is paustika-protective (strength, prestige, welfare), but it has an abhicārika edge: several lines aim to suppress or "cut down" the hostile rival’s potency and authority.
