This hymn invokes the Aśvin twins at dawn as swift openers of paths—powers who widen heaven’s spaces, remove limiting boundaries, and bring the worshipper into auspicious ways. It recalls their celebrated rescues (notably Bhujyu from the ocean) to affirm their ability to lift beings from peril and obscurity into safety, light, and prosperity. The seer culminates by asking them to arrive with their yoked forces from all realms and to open even the firmly shut “cow-pen” of luminous riches for the singer.

Mantra 1

स्तुषे नरा दिवो अस्य प्रसन्ताश्विना हुवे जरमाणो अर्कैः । या सद्य उस्रा व्युषि ज्मो अन्तान्युयूषतः पर्युरू वरांसि ॥

I praise you, O two Lords of the heaven’s widening—Aśvins—invoking you with hymns as one who grows in aspiration; you who, at once, at the dawning, drive away the boundaries and open wide the desirable paths.

Mantra 2

ता यज्ञमा शुचिभिश्चक्रमाणा रथस्य भानुं रुरुचू रजोभिः । पुरू वरांस्यमिता मिमानापो धन्वान्यति याथो अज्रान् ॥

Those two, moving to the sacrifice with their pure powers, made the radiance of their chariot shine through the spaces; measuring out many immeasurable desirable widenesses, you pass beyond the waters and the dry stretches, beyond the open plains.

Mantra 3

ता ह त्यद्वर्तिर्यदरध्रमुग्रेत्था धिय ऊहथुः शश्वदश्वैः । मनोजवेभिरिषिरैः शयध्यै परि व्यथिर्दाशुषो मर्त्यस्य ॥

You two indeed, O mighty ones, drew forth that unbroken track; thus you bear the inspired thoughts with your ever-present horses—swift as mind, eager—around the mortal who offers, removing his distress and shaking off obstruction.

Mantra 4

ता नव्यसो जरमाणस्य मन्मोप भूषतो युयुजानसप्ती । शुभं पृक्षमिषमूर्जं वहन्ता होता यक्षत्प्रत्नो अध्रुग्युवाना ॥

Those two ever-renewing powers, adorning the thought of the growing seeker, yoked in their sevenfold working, bear for him the bright increase—impulse and nourishing strength. May the ancient, undeceiving priest within sacrifice to them, while they remain ever-youthful in their divine action.

Mantra 5

ता वल्गू दस्रा पुरुशाकतमा प्रत्ना नव्यसा वचसा विवासे । या शंसते स्तुवते शम्भविष्ठा बभूवतुर्गृणते चित्रराती ॥

Those two fair and wondrous helpers, most mighty in manifold effective acts—ancient yet ever-new—I serve with a fresh-forming word. For the one who declares and the one who praises, may they become the most bliss-giving, bestowing a many-colored richness of the Light to the singer.

Mantra 6

ता भुज्युं विभिरद्भ्यः समुद्रात्तुग्रस्य सूनुमूहथू रजोभिः । अरेणुभिर्योजनेभिर्भुजन्ता पतत्रिभिरर्णसो निरुपस्थात् ॥

Those two bore Bhujyu, the son of Tugra, out from the waters, from the ocean, by their wide-ranging spaces; with noiseless courses and measured stretchings, enjoying their winged means, they brought him out from the lap of the flood. So too they can lift the inner being from the engulfing subconscient waters into the open field of Light.

वि जयुषा रथ्या यातमद्रिं श्रुतं हवं वृषणा वध्रिमत्याः । दशस्यन्ता शयवे पिप्यथुर्गामिति च्यवाना सुमतिं भुरण्यू ॥

With victorious speed in your chariot-way, come to the pressing-stone, hearing the call, O mighty ones, from the woman in distress. Serving the one who lies afflicted, you made the Cow (the ray of Light) to swell forth; thus you set in motion the right understanding and the swift upward bearing in the seeker.

Mantra 8

यद्रोदसी प्रदिवो अस्ति भूमा हेळो देवानामुत मर्त्यत्रा । तदादित्या वसवो रुद्रियासो रक्षोयुजे तपुरघं दधात ॥

Whatever wrath or harshness is spread in the two worlds and in the far heaven—whether among the gods or in the mortal field—may the Ādityas, the Vasus, and the Rudriyas set against the yokers of darkness the burning force that places sin and harm far away.

य ईं राजानावृतुथा विदधद्रजसो मित्रो वरुणश्चिकेतत् । गम्भीराय रक्षसे हेतिमस्य द्रोघाय चिद्वचस आनवाय ॥

He who knows the two kings, Mitra and Varuṇa, who set the spaces in their seasonal right order—may he perceive the weapon prepared against the deep-dwelling darkness, even against the treacherous word that twists the truth.

Mantra 10

अन्तरैश्चक्रैस्तनयाय वर्तिर्द्युमता यातं नृवता रथेन । सनुत्येन त्यजसा मर्त्यस्य वनुष्यतामपि शीर्षा ववृक्तम् ॥

With the inmost wheels, make a path for the child of the soul; come with your shining, man-supporting chariot. By your ancient might, cut away even at the head the oppression of the mortal who strives to serve and grow.

Mantra 11

आ परमाभिरुत मध्यमाभिर्नियुद्भिर्यातमवमाभिरर्वाक् । दृळ्हस्य चिद्गोमतो वि व्रजस्य दुरो वर्तं गृणते चित्रराती ॥

Come with your yoked energies from the highest and the middle and the lower ranges, turning here towards us. Even of the firm-closed pen of the luminous cows, open the doors—O givers of radiant riches—to the one who sings.
