This hymn invites the Ṛbhus—Ṛbhu, Vibhvan, and Vāja—to the sacrifice, asking them to arrive with Indra and partake of the soma “honey,” bringing their famed power of craftsmanship and renewal into the rite. It praises their unfailing responsiveness to the call and seeks “ratna-dheya” (the placing of treasure/boons) through their united exhilaration with Indra and allied powers.

Mantra 1

ऋभुर्विभ्वा वाज इन्द्रो नो अच्छेमं यज्ञं रत्नधेयोप यात । इदा हि वो धिषणा देव्यह्नामधात्पीतिं सं मदा अग्मता वः ॥

O Rbhu, Vibhvan, Vāja—come with Indra to this our sacrifice that bears the treasure. For now the divine Disanā of the days has set the drinking; come together to your ecstasies of delight.

Mantra 2

विदानासो जन्मनो वाजरत्ना उत ऋतुभिॠभवो मादयध्वम् । सं वो मदा अग्मत सं पुरंधिः सुवीरामस्मे रयिमेरयध्वम् ॥

Knowing your own birth and origin, O Rbhus rich in force and treasure, rejoice also with the right seasons. Let your ecstasies come together, and the power of plenitude with them; set in motion for us the wealth that brings strong and luminous offspring—an increase of inner heroism.

Mantra 3

अयं वो यज्ञ ऋभवोऽकारि यमा मनुष्वत्प्रदिवो दधिध्वे । प्र वोऽच्छा जुजुषाणासो अस्थुरभूत विश्वे अग्रियोत वाजाः ॥

This sacrifice has been fashioned for you, O Rbhus—the one you established from the far heaven, making it humanly accessible. Moving towards you, we stand as those who accept and cherish you; and all the first-going powers of force have become manifest.

Mantra 4

अभूदु वो विधते रत्नधेयमिदा नरो दाशुषे मर्त्याय । पिबत वाजा ऋभवो ददे वो महि तृतीयं सवनं मदाय ॥

A treasure-bearing portion has come to be for you, for the worshipper—here and now—for the mortal who gives. Drink, O Vājas, O Rbhus: a great third pressing has been granted to you for the ecstasy of delight.

Mantra 5

आ वाजा यातोप न ऋभुक्षा महो नरो द्रविणसो गृणानाः । आ वः पीतयोऽभिपित्वे अह्नामिमा अस्तं नवस्व इव ग्मन् ॥

Come, O Vājas; come near to us, O Rbhukṣans—great ones, lords of substance—while we hymn you. Let your drinkings come in the shared home of the days; like those who return to their own dwelling at evening, come to this our resting-place.

Mantra 6

आ नपातः शवसो यातनोपेमं यज्ञं नमसा हूयमानाः । सजोषसः सूरयो यस्य च स्थ मध्वः पात रत्नधा इन्द्रवन्तः ॥

Come, O descendants of Power, come near to this sacrifice, called with reverence. In one accord, O luminous ones, in whose presence you stand—drink the honeyed sweetness; O bearers of treasure, strengthened by Indra, take in the delight.

सजोषा इन्द्र वरुणेन सोमं सजोषाः पाहि गिर्वणो मरुद्भिः । अग्रेपाभिॠतुपाभिः सजोषा ग्नास्पत्नीभी रत्नधाभिः सजोषाः ॥

In one accord, O Indra, drink the Soma with Varuṇa; in one accord, drink, O lord of the hymn, with the Maruts. In one accord with the first-drinkers, with the drinkers in the right seasons; in one accord with the wives of the gods, the treasure-bearing powers.

Mantra 8

सजोषस आदित्यैर्मादयध्वं सजोषस ऋभवः पर्वतेभिः । सजोषसो दैव्येना सवित्रा सजोषसः सिन्धुभी रत्नधेभिः ॥

In one accord rejoice with the Ādityas; in one accord, O Rbhus, with the mountains. In one accord with the divine Savitṛ; in one accord with the rivers, the treasure-bearing streams of power.

Mantra 9

ये अश्विना ये पितरा य ऊती धेनुं ततक्षुॠभवो ये अश्वा । ये अंसत्रा य ऋधग्रोदसी ये विभ्वो नरः स्वपत्यानि चक्रुः ॥

Those who became the Aśvins, those who became the Fathers, those who are the help—those Rbhus who fashioned the Cow of Light and those who fashioned the Horses of power; those who are unfailing, those who set Heaven and Earth apart in right distinction; those Vibhvan-like mighty ones who wrought works of perfect skill.

Mantra 10

ये गोमन्तं वाजवन्तं सुवीरं रयिं धत्थ वसुमन्तं पुरुक्षुम् । ते अग्रेपा ऋभवो मन्दसाना अस्मे धत्त ये च रातिं गृणन्ति ॥

You who have established the plenitude that is luminous with Rays (go-mant), rich in victorious Force (vāja-vant), and full of heroic energies (su-vīra)—a wealth (rayi) abundant and wide in its increase—O Ṛbhus, guardians of the foremost advance, rejoicing in your own inspired delight: place that same gift within us too, in those who affirm and sing the offering of your grace.

Mantra 11

नापाभूत न वोऽतीतृषामानिःशस्ता ऋभवो यज्ञे अस्मिन् । समिन्द्रेण मदथ सं मरुद्भिः सं राजभी रत्नधेयाय देवाः ॥

There has been no failure in you, nor any passing beyond the call unpraised, O Ṛbhus, in this sacrifice. Unite in the ecstasy with Indra, unite with the Maruts, unite with the Kings (the ruling powers), O Gods, for the depositing of the treasure within us.

Frequently Asked Questions
