Sukta 25

Mantra 1

भद्रं नो अपि वातय मनो दक्षमुत क्रतुम् । अधा ते सख्ये अन्धसो वि वो मदे रणन्गावो न यवसे विवक्षसे ॥

Breathe into us the good: the mind, the power of skill, and the will of right intention. Then, in your friendship and in the delight of the Soma-essence, our energies rejoice like cows toward pasture, as you will our increase.

Mantra 2

हृदिस्पृशस्त आसते विश्वेषु सोम धामसु । अधा कामा इमे मम वि वो मदे वि तिष्ठन्ते वसूयवो विवक्षसे ॥

Your touches that reach the heart abide in all the seats, O Soma. Then these desires of mine stand wide awake in your ecstasy—seekers of the true wealth—as you will their increase.

Mantra 3

उत व्रतानि सोम ते प्राहं मिनामि पाक्या । अधा पितेव सूनवे वि वो मदे मृळा नो अभि चिद्वधाद्विवक्षसे ॥

Even your laws, O Soma, I transgress—through childishness. Then, like a father to his son, in your ecstasy be gracious to us; protect us even from the blow of punishment, as you will our growth.

Mantra 4

समु प्र यन्ति धीतयः सर्गासोऽवताँ इव । क्रतुं नः सोम जीवसे वि वो मदे धारया चमसाँ इव विवक्षसे ॥

The gathered inspirations move forward like swift streams descending from the heights. O Soma, for our living, establish in us the power of conscious will (kratu); in thy ecstasy, pour it out and make it grow within us, as one pours the draughts into the cups for the offering.

Mantra 5

तव त्ये सोम शक्तिभिर्निकामासो व्यृण्विरे । गृत्सस्य धीरास्तवसो वि वो मदे व्रजं गोमन्तमश्विनं विवक्षसे ॥

By thy powers, O Soma, the seekers of the true delight open themselves wide. The steadfast seers of the strong One— in thy ecstasy— make for us to grow the luminous fold rich in rays and steeds, the plenitude of ordered energies.

Mantra 6

पशुं नः सोम रक्षसि पुरुत्रा विष्ठितं जगत् । समाकृणोषि जीवसे वि वो मदे विश्वा सम्पश्यन्भुवना विवक्षसे ॥

As a herdsman guards the cattle, so thou guardest us, O Soma, amid the world spread out in many ways. Thou makest us whole for our living; in thy ecstasy, seeing all the worlds, thou makest our being widen into their fullness.

Mantra 7

त्वं नः सोम विश्वतो गोपा अदाभ्यो भव । सेध राजन्नप स्रिधो वि वो मदे मा नो दुःशंस ईशता विवक्षसे ॥

Be for us, O Soma, the all-surrounding guardian, invincible. O King, drive away the powers of failure and harm; in thy ecstasy, let not the evil-speaking hostile force gain mastery over us, but make our strength increase.

Mantra 8

त्वं नः सोम सुक्रतुर्वयोधेयाय जागृहि । क्षेत्रवित्तरो मनुषो वि वो मदे द्रुहो नः पाह्यंहसो विवक्षसे ॥

O Soma of good and effective will, wake in us for the sustaining increase of life. Knower of the field more than man, in thy ecstasy protect us from the deceiver and from anguish, and make our being grow into the right possession.

Mantra 9

त्वं नो वृत्रहन्तमेन्द्रस्येन्दो शिवः सखा । यत्सीं हवन्ते समिथे वि वो मदे युध्यमानास्तोकसातौ विवक्षसे ॥

Thou art for us the most Vṛtra-slaying friend of Indra, O Indu, a gracious companion. When men call on thee in the battle, then in thy ecstasy thou makest them grow in the victory that wins the offspring— the continuance of the soul’s work.

Mantra 10

अयं घ स तुरो मद इन्द्रस्य वर्धत प्रियः । अयं कक्षीवतो महो वि वो मदे मतिं विप्रस्य वर्धयद्विवक्षसे ॥

This indeed is the swift ecstasy, dear to Indra, that grows and increases. This— for Kakṣīvān’s great work— in thy delight thou makest the seer’s thought grow, widening it into its full power.

Mantra 11

अयं विप्राय दाशुषे वाजाँ इयर्ति गोमतः । अयं सप्तभ्य आ वरं वि वो मदे प्रान्धं श्रोणं च तारिषद्विवक्षसे ॥

This Soma stirs up plenitudes of force (vāja) for the giving seer, rich in rays. This brings the supreme choice for the sevenfold powers; in thy ecstasy thou carriest beyond the blind and the lame— beyond the incapacities— and makest us grow into the wider attainment.
