Mantra 1
शत्रुनिवारणम् । ये बाहवो या इषवो धन्वनां वीर्याऽणि च । असीन् परशूनायुधं चित्ताकूतं च यद्धृदि । सर्वं तदर्बुदे त्वममित्रेभ्यो दृशे कुरूदारांश्च प्र दर्शय
Enemy-repelling. What arms there be, what arrows, and the manly powers of bows; what swords, what axes, weaponry, and what mind-wrought purpose that is in the heart,—all that, O Arbuda, from our foemen make thou visible to the eye; lay them open, and show them forth.
Mantra 2
उत् तिष्ठत सं नह्यध्वं मित्रा देवजना यूयम्। संदृष्टा गुप्ता वः सन्तु या नो मित्राण्यर्बुदे
Arise; together gird ye on, O friends, ye god-born folk. In mutual sight and guarded be your state—those friendships which are ours, O Arbuda.
Mantra 3
उत् तिष्ठतमा रभेतामादानसंदानाभ्याम्। अमित्राणां सेना अभि धत्तमर्बुदे
Arise; let them not lay hold—by taking away and binding fast. Against the armies of our foemen set ye yourselves, O Arbuda.
Mantra 4
अर्बुदिर्नाम यो देव ईशानश्च न्यऽर्बुदिः । याभ्यामन्तरिक्षमावृतमियं च पृथिवी मही। ताभ्यामिन्द्रमेदिभ्यामहं जितमन्वेमि सेनया
Arbudi by name is that God, and Nyarbudi, the Lordly twain, by whom the mid-air is encompassed, and this great Earth. With those two, Indra-skilled, I follow after the victory won, together with my host.
Mantra 5
उत् तिष्ठ त्वं देवजनार्बुदे सेनया सह। भञ्जन्नमित्राणां सेनां भोगेभिः परि वारय
Stand up, O Arbudi of the god-born host, together with the army: shattering the foemen’s host, with their goods and pleasures round about, drive them back and hold them off.
Mantra 6
सप्त जातान् न्यऽर्बुद उदाराणां समीक्षयन्। तेभिष्ट्वमाज्ये हुते सर्वैरुत्तिष्ठ सेनया
Nyarbudi, overseeing the seven that are born of the bounteous, with them—when ghee is offered—rise up with all of them, together with the host.
Mantra 7
प्रतिघ्नानाश्रुमुखी कृधुकर्णी च क्रोशतु । विकेशी पुरुषे हते रदिते अर्बुदे तव
Let the smiting woman, tear-faced, and the harsh-eared one cry aloud; let the dishevelled-haired (wife) wail when the man is slain—this lamentation, O Arbudi, is of thy making.
Mantra 8
संकर्षन्ती करूकरं मनसा पुत्रमिच्छन्ती । पतिं भ्रातरमात्स्वान् रदिते अर्बुदे तव
Dragging forth the karūkara-cry, yearning in mind for a son—bereft of husband, brother, and her own—let her wail: this lamentation, O Arbudi, is of thy making.
Mantra 9
अलिक्लवा जाष्कमदा गृध्राः श्येनाः पतत्रिणः । ध्वाङ्क्षाः शकुनयस्तृप्यन्त्वमित्रेषु समीक्षयन् रदिते अर्बुदे तव
Let Aliklavās, Jāṣkamadās—vultures, hawks, the winged fliers—let crows and ominous birds be sated, as they look about upon the enemies, O Raditā, O Arbuda, under thy power.
Mantra 10
अथो सर्वं श्वापदं मक्षिका तृप्यतु क्रिमिः । पौरुषेयेऽधि कुणपे रदिते अर्बुदे तव
And further, let every beast of prey, the fly, let the worm be sated upon the human carcass—O Raditā, O Arbuda—under thy power.
Mantra 11
आ गृह्णीतं सं बृहतं प्रानापानान् न्यर्बुदे । निवाशा घोषाः सं यन्त्वमित्रेषु समीक्षयन् रदिते अर्बुदे तव
Seize ye, press ye wholly down the in-breath and out-breath—O Arbuda. Let abodes and clamours gather and move upon the enemies, as they look about—O Raditā, O Arbuda—under thy power.
Mantra 12
उद् वेपय सं विजन्तां भियामित्रान्त्सं सृज । उरुग्राहैर्बाह्वङ्कैर्विध्यामित्रान् न्यर्बुदे
Make them start and tremble; let the enemies be wholly scattered with fear: send it forth. With wide-grasping seizings, with arm-hooks, pierce the enemies down, O Arbuda.
Mantra 13
मुह्यन्त्वेषां बाहवश्चित्ताकूतं च यद्धृदि। मैषामुच्छेषि किं चन रदिते अर्बुदे तव
Let their arms be bewildered, and the mind’s intent—whatever lies within the heart. Let not anything at all of them remain, O Raditā, O Arbuda, under thy power.
Mantra 14
प्रतिघ्नानाः सं धावन्तूरः पटूरावाघ्नानाः । अघारिणीर्विकेश्योऽ रुदत्यः१ पुरुषे हते रदिते अर्बुदे तव
Let the counter-smiters rush together—keen of onset, smiters with their clamour—evil-bearers, with loosened hair, wailing: upon the man, when he is struck and torn, O Arbuda, thine own.
Mantra 15
श्वऽन्वतीरप्सरसो रूपका उतार्बुदे । अन्तःपात्रे रेरिहतीं रिशां दुर्णिहितैषिणीम्। सर्वास्ता अर्बुदे त्वममित्रेभ्यो दृशे कुरूदारांश्च प्र दर्शय
Dog-followed Apsarases, shape-wearing, and thou, O Arbuda—her that within the vessel licks again and again, seeking harm, hunting what is ill-bestowed: all those, O Arbuda, make thou visible to our foes; their gaping sores, too, show forth.
Mantra 16
खडूरेऽधिचङ्क्रमां खर्विकां खर्ववासिनीम्। य उदारा अन्तर्हिता गन्धर्वाप्सरसश्च ये । सर्पा इतरजना रक्षांसि
In Khadūra, striding over, the dwarf-woman, dweller among dwarfs; they whose gaping mouths lie hidden within—Gandharvas and Apsarases—and they, the serpents, the other tribes, the Rakṣases.
Mantra 17
चतुर्दंष्ट्रांछ्यावदतः कुम्भमुष्काँ असृङ्मुखान्। स्वभ्यसा ये चोद्भ्यसाः
The four-fanged, the dark-toothed, the jar-scrotumed, the blood-mouthed—those of their own brood, and those arisen from the waters.
Mantra 18
उद् वेपय त्वमर्बुदेऽमित्राणाममूः सिचः । जयांश्च जिष्णुश्चामित्रां जयतामिन्द्रमेदिनौ
Shake forth, O Arbuda, those effusions of the foes; and let the Victorious and the Conquering conquer the enemies—Indra-strong, Indra-full.
Mantra 19
प्रब्लीनो मृदितः शयां हतो३मित्रो न्यर्बुदे । अग्निजिह्वा धूमशिखा जयन्तीर्यन्तु सेनया
Crushed down, ground to dust, let the foe lie low—smitten down, O Arbuda. Let the fire-tongued, smoke-crested, victorious powers advance with our host.
Mantra 20
तयार्बुदे प्रणुत्तानामिन्द्रो हन्तु वरंवरम्। अमित्राणां शचीपतिर्मामीषां मोचि कश्चन
Therewith, O Arbuda, let Indra smite the routed foes—each best man after best. Let Śacī’s Lord, against the enemies, suffer not one of these to slip away at all.
Mantra 21
उत्कसन्तु हृदयान्यूर्ध्वः प्राण उदीषतु । शौष्कास्यमनु वर्तताममित्रान्मोत मित्रिणः
Let their hearts be torn forth; upward let the breath rush out. Let parching dryness follow after—upon the foes, not upon our friends as well.
Mantra 22
ये च धीरा ये चाधीराः पराञ्चो बधिराश्च ये। तमसा ये च तूपरा अथो बस्ताभिवासिनः । सर्वांस्ताँ अर्बुदे त्वममित्रेभ्यो दृशे कुरूदारांश्च प्रदर्शय
Whether steadfast or unsteadfast, whether turned away or deaf—whether in darkness, or dull and dazed, and those who dwell with goats: all these, O Arbuda, make thou visible to the enemies’ sight; lay them open and show them forth.
Mantra 23
अर्बुदिश्च त्रिषंधिश्चामित्रान् नो वि विध्यताम्। यथैषामिन्द्र वृत्रहन् हनाम शचीपतेऽमित्राणां सहस्रशः
Let Arbudi and Triṣandhi pierce our foes asunder for us; that, O Indra, Vṛtra-slayer, Lord of Śacī, we may slay of these enemies by thousands.
Mantra 24
वनस्पतीन् वानस्पत्यानोषधीरुत वीरुधः । गन्धर्वाप्सरसः सर्पान् देवान् पुण्यजनान् पितॄन्। सर्वांस्तां अर्बुदे त्वममित्रेभ्यो दृशे कुरूदारांश्च प्र दर्शय
The forest-lords, the tree-born powers, the herbs, and the creeping plants; the Gandharvas and Apsarases, the serpents, the Gods, the holy folk, the Fathers—make all these, O Arbuda, visible against the foes; set them forth openly, and show them forth.
Mantra 25
ईशां वो मरुतो देव आदित्यो ब्रह्मणस्पतिः । ईशां व इन्द्रश्चाग्निश्च धाता मित्रः प्रजापतिः । ईशां व ऋषयश्चक्रुरमित्रेषु समीक्षयन् रदिते अर्बुदे तव
Lords for you are the Maruts, the God, the Āditya, and Brahmaṇaspati. Lords for you are Indra and Agni, Dhātṛ, Mitra, Prajāpati. Lords for you the seers have made them, looking forth upon the foes—O Radite, O Arbuda—thine.
Mantra 26
तेषां सर्वेषामीशाना उत् तिष्ठत सं नह्यध्वं मित्रा देवजना यूयम्। इमं संग्रामं संजित्य यथालोकं वि तिष्ठध्वम्
As masters over them all, stand up; bind ye on together, ye friendly god-folk. This battle having won, stand forth each in his proper world, each in his appointed place.
To force hidden hostility into the open—making an enemy’s weapons and intentions visible—so their power can be neutralized, repelled, and decisively overcome.
Arbuda is invoked as a personified protective and coercive power that reveals concealed threats and helps overturn hostile forces; allied figures (like Raditā and the divine host) extend this action.
It both mobilizes protective forces for victory and then dismisses them to prevent lingering disruptive energy—closing the rite with control, containment, and restored order.
