Sukta 8.46
गावो न यूथमुप यन्ति वध्रय उप मा यन्ति वध्रयः ॥
gā́vo na yū́tham úpa yanti vádhraya úpa mā́ yanti vádhrayaḥ ||
Likely part of praise/recitation in a Soma setting; exact application uncertain.
Integration of the being (yūtha as unity), Approach of helpful powers (upa)
Approach toward the ‘herd’ images right ordering: each ray finds its place in the whole.
Truth is felt as coherence—inner parts align and stop contradicting.
From multiplicity to unity: the many rays assemble into one luminous collectivity.
Vedic psychology of integration (Aurobindo: unification of nature around the psychic being).
Cows returning to herd = thoughts/rays returning to a unified awareness; approach = descent of supportive energies.
Integration of scattered attention into a single field.
Anāhata (gathering around the heart-center/psychic)
Box breathing 4-4-4-4 while mentally repeating ‘upa yanti… upa mā yanti’.
Collected, unified, quietly receptive.
Chant softly; with each ‘upa’ feel attention returning from the periphery to the center; end in silent sitting for 2–3 minutes.
Accent details not determinable here; chant with a clear rhythmic repetition to mirror the semantic repetition.
Keep both clauses parallel: ‘upa yanti vadhrayaḥ / upa mā yanti vadhrayaḥ’. Slight pause between them.
gāvo: long ‘ā’, yūtham: long ‘ū’; dental ‘th’, vadhrayaḥ: cluster ‘dhr’ articulated; final visarga lightly aspirated
Soft, gathering, inward; minimal force.
