What the texts say
The Bhagavata Purana tells the story of Putana and Baby Krishna, beginning with the rakshasi Putana, engaged by King Kamsa to kill babies. Bhagavatam 10.6.2 By mystic power she became a very beautiful woman and entered Gokula. Bhagavatam 10.6.4 She pushed her poisoned breast into Krishna's mouth, but he sucked out both the poison and her life. Bhagavatam 10.6.10 The gopis, the cowherd women, then found the child playing fearlessly on her gigantic fallen body. Bhagavatam 10.6.14, 10.6.18 Because she offered her breast to the Lord, the text says, Putana attained the greatest achievement. Bhagavatam 10.6.35

- 10.6.2
