Sukta 9.43
पुनानो याति हर्यतः सोमो गीर्भिः परिष्कृतः । विप्रस्य मेध्यातिथेः ॥
punānó yā́ti haryatáḥ sómo gī́rbhiḥ pári-kṛtaḥ | víprasya médhya-atitheḥ ||
Purifying himself, the golden Soma goes forward, perfectly prepared by hymns, for/within the seer who is the fit guest of the sacrifice.
The self-purifying delight moves onward in the being when it is ‘made ready’ by inspired formulation—our mantra-thoughts and sincerities. The vipra (seer-mind) becomes medhya-atithi: a pure, welcome guest in the inner yajña, capable of receiving Soma without distortion. Thus Soma advances as a conscious force, not a fleeting mood.
Inner progress requires both purification and right preparation: joy must be refined by true thought and hosted by a purified intelligence.
Soma as guest, speech consecration, seer’s work (vipra), purification and readiness
The Soma poets are ‘vipra’-craftsmen of consciousness, using gīraḥ to refine subtle experience into stable realization.
The mantra teaches the yogic hospitality: the mind must become medhya (fit/pure) to host higher delight.
Carries the nectar-force forward into the worlds; establishes purity and readiness for divine action.
A progressive, self-refining Ananda that organizes the being around a luminous center.
Soma filtration/purification sequences; preparation of Soma for offering

2 padas of ~11 syllables each (as presented)
Processional movement—‘goes forward’ feel; smooth continuity.
Supports sustained inner advance; good for walking meditation or steady seated japa.
Marks Soma’s forward movement after being ‘prepared’ by hymns; highlights Soma as the welcomed guest in the rite/inner altar
As Soma is being refined and readied; in the flow of Pavamāna recitations
Accompanies purification and consecration; aligns singers with the ‘seer’s work’
Use to cultivate ‘inner readiness’: chant before meditation to make the mind a fit guest—quiet, clear, receptive.
yā́ti: √yā ‘go’ (PIE *h₁ey- ‘go’). pári-kṛtaḥ: past participle of √kṛ ‘make/do’ with pári ‘around’ → ‘fully prepared’. vipra: ‘inspired, trembling with insight’ (semantic field of inspired excitation). medhya: from medhā ‘intelligence/sacrificial potency’; atithi ‘guest’ (a-ti-thi: ‘one who comes’), a key Vedic hospitality-sacrifice term.
vāc (hymn) as perfecting instrument, atithi as indwelling divine presence, medhā as luminous intelligence
Pariṣkṛta indicates ordering by Ṛta—nothing excessive, nothing deficient.
Gīraḥ are not decoration but truth-formations that make the experience effective.
Refinement as evolutionary method: the divine essence advances by self-purification.
Yoga of transformation (Aurobindo): purification + receptivity → descent/advance of Ananda.
A purified stream of joy advances when the mind becomes a clean sanctuary and speech becomes mantra-craft.
Become medhya-atithi: cultivate purity and welcoming receptivity for the rise of Ananda.
Viśuddha (purifying speech/mantra) supporting Ājñā (seer-mind)
Soft ujjāyī; inhale ‘punānaḥ yāti’, exhale ‘gīrbhiḥ pariṣkṛtaḥ’—feel refinement on the exhale.
Quietly luminous, receptive, steadily progressing.
Chant 7 times, then sit and observe the mind as a clean guest-room; if thoughts arise, ‘prepare’ them by truthfulness and let them settle.
Accents highlight punānaḥ, yāti, somaḥ, pariṣkṛtaḥ; keep a gentle rise on yāti to express ‘advance’.
Do not rush ‘pariṣkṛtaḥ’; articulate it as the seal of refinement.
punānaḥ: long ā; final visarga light, pariṣkṛtaḥ: retroflex ṣ; conjunct ‘kṛ’ with clear ‘ṛ’, viprasya: ‘pr’ cluster clean, medhyātitheḥ: ‘dhyā’ conjunct; keep long ā
even, smooth, hospitable warmth; minimal vibrato.
