Sukta 8.7
विद्युद्धस्ता अभिद्यवः शिप्राः शीर्षन्हिरण्ययीः । शुभ्रा व्यञ्जत श्रिये ॥
vidyúdd-hastā abhi-dyávaḥ śíprāḥ śīrṣán-hiraṇyáyīḥ | śubhrā ví añjata śríye ||
Marut invocation in Soma rites: calling the storm-powers that purify, energize, and bring śrī (splendor) to the sacrifice and the inner offering.
Śrī (splendor as harmony of being), purification/clarification (śubhra)
The Maruts enforce Ṛta by breaking inertia and restoring right movement in the waters/energies.
‘Golden’ indicates truth-light stabilizing the mental crown.
Manifestation of splendour (śrī) through consecrated energies; beauty as a sign of truth embodied.
Proto-Vedāntic / Integral (Aurobindonian) reading: ascent and descent coordinated through purified vital.
monsoon/storm-season (suggestive)
Lightning = intuition; storm = transformative life-energy; gold = illumined mind; anointing = permeation of instruments by the divine influence.
Consecration of the life-force to carry illumination into action without agitation.
Anāhata to Ājñā (uplift of prāṇa into clear seeing)
Moderate rhythmic breathing (sama-vṛtti) with brief pauses to ‘receive’ lightning-like insight.
Energized clarity; sattvic-vital strength under mental light.
Before work or sādhanā, repeat the mantra while visualizing golden light at the crown and a bright, calm force in the hands; offer impulses of action into that light.
Use Vedic tri-svara (udātta/anudātta/svarita) as per śākhā tradition; exact accenting requires pada-text svara marks beyond the provided line.
Lean on udātta syllables to create a forward ‘lift’; keep anudātta low and steady; let svarita glide without over-emphasis.
vidyut-hastāḥ: keep cluster ‘dyut’ crisp; dental ‘t’, abhidyavaḥ: light ‘bh’ aspiration; avoid turning ‘vaḥ’ into ‘vah’, śiprāḥ: retroflex ‘ṣ’, hiraṇyayīḥ: clear retroflex ‘ṇ’; lengthen ‘yīḥ’, añjata: palatal ‘ñj’ as in ‘an-j’ with nasal support, śriye: conjunct ‘śr’ clean, short ‘i’
Bright, resonant, slightly forceful but controlled; avoid harshness.
