Sukta 9.67
इन्दो व्यव्यमर्षसि वि श्रवांसि वि सौभगा । वि वाजान्त्सोम गोमतः ॥
índo vy avyàm arṣasi | ví śravāṃsi ví saúbhagā | ví vā́jān soma gómataḥ ||
O Indu, you stream widely through the imperishable filter; you spread fame/hearings, you spread felicities, you spread victorious energies—O Soma rich in cows (rays).
Soma, moving through the inner filter (avyam), widens consciousness. It spreads śravāṃsi—not outer ‘fame’ but inspired hearings: receptivity to truth and the messages of intuition. It spreads saubhagā—felicities, harmonies of the soul’s good fortune. It spreads vājān—victorious powers of realization. ‘Gomataḥ’ declares it rich in rays of knowledge (go), not cattle: illumination multiplying in the nature.
When delight is purified, it naturally widens receptivity, harmony, and effective power; true prosperity is the increase of light and capacity within.
Soma-ritual, Expansion (vi-), Illumination through hearing, Felicity and victorious force
The seer’s emphasis is integrative: purification is validated by its fruits—widened receptivity, harmony, and victorious capacity suffused with light (go).
Distributor of inner riches: it spreads listening, fortune, and victory across the human field.
A widening ananda that turns into knowledge-receptivity (śravas/śravāṃsi), harmony (saubhaga), and power (vāja).

Repetitive ‘vi…vi…vi…’ gives a widening, spreading rhythm.
Creates an expansive sense in the chest and head; supports openness and receptivity.
Pavamāna hymnic segment accompanying Soma’s filtration (avyam/pavitra), invoking expansion of śravas (inspired hearing), saubhaga (felicity), and vāja (victorious force) as boons of the rite.
As Soma passes through the strainer and is prepared for offering
Straining/clarifying; invoking Soma’s distributing powers
Chant for opening intuition (‘inner hearing’) and for harmonizing life circumstances by inner alignment rather than external striving.
avyam: ‘of the sheep’ → the woolen strainer; ritual term for Soma filtration, extended symbolically to inner discrimination. śravāṃsi: from √śru ‘to hear’; Vedic ‘hearing’ is reception of truth (śruti), hence illuminative inspiration. saubhagā: su-bhaga ‘good allotment/fortunate portion’ → felicity/harmony. gomat: go ‘cow’ in Vedic often signifies light-ray/knowledge (root √gā ‘to go’ also supports ‘ray’ as moving light); thus gomat = endowed with luminous herds.
Discrimination/purification as prerequisite to truth, Śruti as inner hearing of the Real, Light-as-knowledge (go)
The ‘filter’ is ṛta in the psyche: separating truth-movement from mixture.
Śravāṃsi as reception of satya—truth that is heard inwardly.
Expansion (vi-) as a creative principle: consciousness widens and multiplies its powers.
Integral Vedāntic reading: prosperity as inner light, harmony, and capacity.
Discernment filters experience; purified joy spreads as intuitive hearing, harmony, and victorious energy, radiating as knowledge-light.
Widen the inner field; receive rather than strive—let ‘hearing’ awaken.
anāhata (expansion/harmony) and ājñā (inner hearing/insight)
Box breathing 4-4-4-4 for a few rounds, then natural breath while chanting, feeling ‘vi’ as expansion on exhale.
Open, receptive, quietly luminous.
After chanting, sit 3–5 minutes in ‘śravaṇa’ mode: listen inwardly without seeking; note any intuitive promptings and let them settle into calm certainty.
Not fully recoverable; keep clear segmentation at each ‘vi’ while maintaining overall flow.
Mark the repeated ‘vi’ with a slight lift; emphasize: índo, ávyam, árṣasi, śrávāṃsi, sáubhagā, vā́jān, gó-mataḥ (approx.).
vy avyam: keep ‘vy’ conjunct clean; avoid inserting extra vowel, śravāṃsi: ‘śr’ conjunct; long ā; nasal ṃ, saubhagā: ‘au’ diphthong; ‘bh’ aspirated; long ā, gomataḥ: long o; dental t; final ḥ light
Open-throated, expansive, slightly softer on repeated ‘vi’ to create widening rather than force.
