Sukta 8.103

Devata

Agni

Mantra 5

Mantra 7

Mantra 14

Inside Sukta 103

How it unfolds

  1. Where it opens

Agni is ‘seen’ as the best guide—he in whom the laws/ordinances are placed; the hymn positions speech as moving toward him.

  2. Development

The singers intensify praise: Agni is celebrated as bountiful, ṛta-bearing, vast, and bright, worthy of near approach and continuous laudation.

  3. Climax

A direct liturgical summons: “O Agni, come… for the drinking of Soma,” with Maruts/Rudras as companions—marking full divine arrival into the rite.

  4. Where it settles

Agni is asked to delight in the Sobharyās’ well-shaped praise, confirming reciprocity: hymn and offering evoke divine presence and strengthening.
