Mantras

Mantra 1

On ryczy i woła nad starożytnymi fundamentami; wznosząc się w górę, płowy rozluźnia i tworzy słodycz. Przechodząc przez filtr, poruszając się szerokimi biegami, bóg kładzie swoje szybkie ruchy i przychodzi do wybranej doskonałości.

Mantra 3

On, który rozszerza i wymierza bliźniacze, zaprzężone światy, jego ekstaza rośnie razem, pęczniejąc mlekiem obfitości, niewyczerpana. Odkrywa on dwie rozległe przestrzenie bez granic; posuwając się naprzód, bierze dla siebie niezawodną siłę światła.

Mantra 4

Poruszając się między dwiema Matkami, pobudzając wody do wzrostu, mądry swym własnym prawem wypełnia stację. Promień jest mielony z ziarnem; wtedy, z ludźmi i z pokrewnymi mocami, osiąga cel i strzeże głowy, szczytu świadomości.

Mantra 5

Myśliciele odnaleźli formę zachwyconego, gdy orzeł przyniósł istotę Somy z daleka. Oczyszczają go, dobrze rosnącego, w rzekach, pożądany promień krążący, odpowiedni dla hymnu i rytmu prawdy.

Mantra 7

Dziesięć dziewcząt oczyszcza cię, o Somo, wyciśniętego i ustawionego przez widzących myślami i stałymi kontemplacjami. Z wełnianymi sitami i z wezwaniami bogów, z ludzkimi mocami, stamtąd przychodzisz, objawiając obfitość siły dla zwycięstwa.

Mantra 8

Gdy Soma krąży wokół, gotowy do lotu, dobrze umieszczony, natchnione myśli i hymny śpiewały do niego. On, bogaty w słodycz, swoją falą z nieba podnosi słowo; nieśmiertelny, pomnaża obfitość bytu.

Mantra 9

Tak więc, o Somo, gdy jesteś wylewany dokoła, płynij w swojej czystości, ustanawiając w nas naj cudowniejszą szerokość życia. W nienaruszonej harmonii wzywamy Niebo i Ziemię; o bogowie, obdarzcie nas pełnią istnienia bogatą w heroiczną siłę.

Inside Sukta 68

How it unfolds

  1. Where it opens

Honeyed Soma-drops surge toward the divine like eager cattle, while word-rich powers on the sacred seat establish the streaming radiance in purity.

  2. Development

The hymn elaborates Soma’s cleansing through waters/filters and his transformation into a bright, hymn-worthy ‘ray’; it also recalls the mythic origin—Soma brought by the eagle from the far beyond.

  3. Climax

Recognition of Soma’s true form by the seers and the intense act of cleansing him in the rivers—Soma as purified delight aligned with ṛta and fit for sacred song.

  4. Where it settles

A direct supplication: as Soma is poured all around, may he establish wondrous life-power in us; in undivided harmony Heaven-and-Earth are invoked, and the gods are asked to grant heroic wealth.

The deity: Soma Pavamāna

  • In the VedaSoma is the pressed plant-essence that becomes a god: a honeyed, shining, flowing power, cleansed through the sieve and waters, moving as a radiant ‘ray’ fit for ṛc and ṛta. He is portrayed as rushing like cows to their home, wearing a bright garment of purity, and remembered as brought by the eagle from the far distance.
  • Cosmic functionTo purify and vitalize the worlds: Soma mediates between human offering and divine reception, strengthens gods and men, and renews cosmic order through clarified, luminous flow.
  • Inner significanceThe refining of consciousness: emotions and impulses are ‘pressed’ and ‘filtered’ into clarity, sweetness, and inspired speech; Soma becomes the purified delight that supports truth (ṛta), vigor, and harmonious integration.
