Sukta 9.67
ककुहः सोम्यो रस इन्दुरिन्द्राय पूर्व्यः । आयुः पवत आयवे ॥
kakúhaḥ sómyo rása índur índrāya pū́rvyaḥ | āyúḥ pavata āyáve ||
Istota Somy, Indu, wybitny i pradawny, stoi jako szczyt smaku i rozkoszy dla Indry; płynie jako samo życie ku temu, kto szuka życia, wzmacniając ciągłość stawania się duszy.
The Soma-essence, the Indu, ancient and foremost, is a summit/peak; it flows as life toward the life-seeker, for Indra.
Purified delight becomes ‘rasa’—the essential taste of being—and stands at the summit of experience when offered to Indra (illumined mind). This clarified Ananda flows as āyus, a sustaining life-power, toward the aspirant who seeks true life (not mere survival), extending the soul’s continuity in growth.
The highest ‘taste’ of existence is not sensation but clarified essence; when aligned with illumination, it becomes a renewing life-force.
Soma as rasa, Life-force and delight, Offering to Indra, Culmination/summit imagery
The verse reads like a direct experiential report: the seer identifies Soma as the primordial rasa that becomes āyus when oriented to Indra—an early psychology of Ananda sustaining evolution.
Soma is the essence that nourishes gods and worlds; it is the ‘taste’ of existence that sustains life and empowers illumination.
Ananda as a stabilizing, renewing vitality that supports the ascent of mind into clarity.
Soma filtration/pressing; praising Soma as offering to Indra

4×12 (approx.)
Broad, elevated cadence matching ‘kakuhaḥ’ (summit) and ‘pūrvyaḥ’ (ancient)
Gives a sense of height and spaciousness; supports meditative absorption into ‘rasa’.
Highlights Soma as rasa for Indra and as āyu (life) for the sacrificer; used to sacralize Soma as both divine delight and life-sustaining current during purification/offerings.
During Soma rites when Soma is prepared and offered; stotra/śastra contexts vary by school
Recitation while Soma is flowing/being collected; mental offering to Indra
Contemplate ‘rasa’ as the refined essence of experience; use before pranayama or when rebuilding vitality after mental fatigue.
kakuha: ‘peak, summit’ (poetic epithet indicating highest point). rasa: ‘sap/essence’ from √ras ‘to taste’—in Vedic, the essential extract; supports the inner reading as ‘delight-essence’. pūrvya: from pūrva ‘former, first’ → archetypal/ancient. āyu: life, vital principle (cf. later āyus). pavate: from √pū/√pav, middle voice indicating self-purifying flow.
Delight-essence as substance of consciousness (rasa), Life-force (āyu) as carrier of divine continuity, Archetypal/primeval power (pūrvya)
True life (āyus) is life aligned with R̥ta; Soma becomes that alignment as a flowing essence.
The ‘primordial’ rasa indicates a truth of being prior to surface agitation.
From primordial essence arises sustaining life-force; delight as a creative substrate.
Vedantic-Anandamaya reading (Taittirīya’s ‘rasa’ resonance).
The ‘peak’ is the highest poise of consciousness; the ‘flow’ is the descent/ascent of sustaining Ananda through the system.
Rest attention in the ‘taste’ of awareness itself; let that rasa rise to the brow as a clear offering to discernment.
Anāhata (rasa/joy) to Ājñā (illumination) axis
Slow inhalation sensing ‘āyuḥ’ entering; brief kumbhaka to ‘hold the essence’; soft exhale offering to Indra (brow light)
Quietly blissful, sustained, elevated
When desire for stimulation arises, repeat the mantra and shift from objects to essence—ask: ‘What is the pure taste behind this?’
Chant per marked Vedic accents; keep the rise on kakuhaḥ and indrā́ya distinct if so marked in your text tradition.
Do not over-stress conjuncts: somyáḥ should be smooth; keep pū́rvyaḥ clear and open.
kakuhaḥ: articulate both ‘ka’ syllables; final visarga soft, somyaḥ: ‘my’ palatal glide, not ‘mya’ heavy, pūrvyaḥ: long ‘ū’; ‘rv’ cluster light, āyave: long ‘ā’; ‘v’ as soft labiodental/semivowel
Smooth, rounded, ‘nectar-like’ tone with steady breath support
