ଏହି ସଂକ୍ଷିପ୍ତ ଅଗ୍ନି-ସୂକ୍ତରେ ଯଜ୍ଞାଗ୍ନିଙ୍କୁ ପ୍ରାର୍ଥନା କରାଯାଇଛି ଯେ ସେ ବାହ୍ୟ ସଂଘର୍ଷ ଓ ଅନ୍ତର୍ଗତ ବାଧା—ଦୁହିଁରେ ଶତ୍ରୁତାମୟ ଶକ୍ତିକୁ ଦମନ କରନ୍ତୁ, ଏବଂ ଯଜମାନଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ “ବର୍ଚ୍ଛସ୍” (ତେଜ, ବିଜୟୀ ଦୀପ୍ତି) ସ୍ଥାପନ କରନ୍ତୁ। ପ୍ରସ୍ତୁତ ବର୍ହିଷ୍ (ଯଜ୍ଞାସନ) ଉପରେ ଅଗ୍ନିଙ୍କୁ ଆହ୍ୱାନ କରାଯାଏ, ଦୀପ୍ତିମାନ ଶକ୍ତିରେ ଜାଗ୍ରତ କରାଯାଏ, ଏବଂ ବୀର୍ୟ-ସମୃଦ୍ଧ “ରୟି” (ସମୃଦ୍ଧି/ପ୍ରଚୁରତା) ଦାନ କରିବା ସହ ଉପାସକମାନଙ୍କ ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ୟକୁ ଶୁଦ୍ଧ କରିବାକୁ ଅନୁରୋଧ କରାଯାଏ।
Mantra 1
अग्ने सहस्व पृतना अभिमातीरपास्य । दुष्टरस्तरन्नरातीर्वर्चो धा यज्ञवाहसे ॥
ହେ ଅଗ୍ନି, ଯୁଦ୍ଧମାନଙ୍କରେ ବିଜୟୀ ହେଅ; ଆକ୍ରମଣକାରୀ ଶତ୍ରୁଶକ୍ତିମାନଙ୍କୁ ଦୂରେ ହଟାଇଦେ। ଦୁଷ୍ଟର ହେଲେ ମଧ୍ୟ, ନିଷେଧର ଶକ୍ତିମାନଙ୍କୁ ପାର କରି, ଯଜ୍ଞବାହକରେ ତେଜ ଓ ଶ୍ରୀ ସ୍ଥାପନ କର।
Mantra 2
अग्न इळा समिध्यसे वीतिहोत्रो अमर्त्यः । जुषस्व सू नो अध्वरम् ॥
ହେ ଅଗ୍ନି, ଇଳା ସହିତ ତୁମେ ପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣତାରେ ପ୍ରଜ୍ୱଳିତ ହେଉଛ; ହବି ପାଖକୁ ଆସୁଥିବା ଅମର ତୁମେ। ଆମର ଏହି ଅଖଣ୍ଡ ଅଧ୍ୱରମ୍ (ଯଜ୍ଞ-ଯାତ୍ରା) କୁ ପ୍ରସନ୍ନତାରେ ଗ୍ରହଣ କର।

अग्ने द्युम्नेन जागृवे सहसः सूनवाहुत । एदं बर्हिः सदो मम ॥
ହେ ଅଗ୍ନି, ଦ୍ୟୁମ୍ନର ପ୍ରକାଶବଳରେ ଜାଗ୍ରତ, ହେ ସହସର ପୁତ୍ର, ଆହ୍ୱାନିତ—ଏହା ମୋର ବର୍ହିଃ, ପବିତ୍ର କୁଶତୃଣର ପସାରା ଆସନ, ମୋର ସଦସ୍ୟସ୍ଥାନ।

अग्ने विश्वेभिरग्निभिर्देवेभिर्महया गिरः । यज्ञेषु य उ चायवः ॥
ହେ ଅଗ୍ନି, ସମସ୍ତ ଅଗ୍ନିମାନଙ୍କ ସହ, ଦେବମାନଙ୍କ ସହ, ଯଜ୍ଞମାନେ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ସଂଗୃହୀତ ଓ ବଳବତୀ ହୋଇଥିବା ଆମ ପ୍ରେରଣାମୟ ବାଣୀକୁ ମହିମାମଣ୍ଡିତ କର।

अग्ने दा दाशुषे रयिं वीरवन्तं परीणसम् । शिशीहि नः सूनुमतः ॥
ହେ ଅଗ୍ନି, ଦାନକର୍ତ୍ତା (ଯଜମାନ)ଙ୍କୁ ବୀରଶକ୍ତିସମ୍ପନ୍ନ ଓ ପରିପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ସମୃଦ୍ଧିରେ ପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ‘ରୟି’ ଦାନ କର। ହେ ସୂନୁମତ (ପ୍ରେରଣାଶକ୍ତିର ପୁତ୍ର), ଆମକୁ ତୀକ୍ଷ୍ଣ ଓ ପରିପକ୍ୱ କର, ଯେପରି ଆମ ଆତ୍ମ-ସଙ୍କଳ୍ପ ଏକ ପ୍ରକାଶମୟ ଉପକରଣ ହୋଇଉଠେ।
It asks Agni to drive away hostile forces, protect the worshipper in conflict, and establish radiant strength (varcas) and prosperity (rayi) through the sacrifice.
Barhis is the ritual “seat” prepared for the gods. Mentioning it signals that Agni is being formally welcomed and invited to take his place so the rite can succeed.
They refer to hostile pressures—enemies, ill-will, or obstructing forces. The hymn treats Agni as the power that repels these outer and inner forms of opposition.
