ଏହି ସଂକ୍ଷିପ୍ତ ସୂକ୍ତଟି ଶବାନୁଷ୍ଠାନ/ପିତୃମୁଖୀ ପ୍ରାର୍ଥନା; ଏଥିରେ ପ୍ରାର୍ଥନା କରାଯାଏ ଯେ ପରଲୋକଗତ ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିଙ୍କୁ ସେହି ଧନ୍ୟ ସଙ୍ଗତିକୁ ନେଇଯାଉ, ଯେଉଁଠାରେ ସୋମ ମଧୁରତାରେ, ଘୃତସଦୃଶ ଦୀପ୍ତିରେ ଓ ପବିତ୍ର ଆହୁତିରୂପେ ପ୍ରବାହିତ ହୁଏ। ଏହା ‘ସୁଗତ’ ମାନଙ୍କ ଶ୍ରେଣୀ ଉଲ୍ଲେଖ କରେ—ଯୁଦ୍ଧରେ ସାହସୀ, ଆତ୍ମତ୍ୟାଗୀ, ମହାଦାତା, ତପସ୍ଜନିତ ଋଷି—ଏବଂ ଯମଙ୍କ ଶାସନାଧୀନ ତାଙ୍କ ଦୀପ୍ତିମୟ ଲୋକକୁ ଆତ୍ମା ପ୍ରାପ୍ତ କରୁ ବୋଲି ଅନୁରୋଧ କରେ।

सोम एकेभ्यः पवते घृतमेक उपासते । येभ्यो मधु प्रधावति ताँश्चिदेवापि गच्छतात् ॥
ଯାହାଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ସୋମ ବହେ—କେହିଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ଘୃତରୂପେ, କେହିଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ଉପାସ୍ୟ ଅର୍ପଣରୂପେ—ଯାହାଙ୍କ ଦିଗକୁ ମଧୁ (ମାଧୁର୍ୟ) ପ୍ରବାହିତ ହୁଏ, ସେମାନଙ୍କ ପାଖକୁ ସେ ନିଶ୍ଚୟ ଗମନ କରୁ।

तपसा ये अनाधृष्यास्तपसा ये स्वर्ययुः । तपो ये चक्रिरे महस्ताँश्चिदेवापि गच्छतात् ॥
ତପସା ଯେ ଅନାଧୃଷ୍ୟ (ଅଜେୟ) ଅଟନ୍ତି, ତପସା ଯେ ସ୍ୱର୍-ଲୋକକୁ ଗତ, ତପସା ଯେ ମହତ୍ (ବିଶାଳତା) ଗଢ଼ିଛନ୍ତି—ସେମାନଙ୍କ ପାଖକୁ ସେ ନିଶ୍ଚୟ ଗମନ କରୁ।

ये युध्यन्ते प्रधनेषु शूरासो ये तनूत्यजः । ये वा सहस्रदक्षिणास्ताँश्चिदेवापि गच्छतात् ॥
ଯେ ପ୍ରଧାନ ଯୁଦ୍ଧମାନଙ୍କରେ ଶୂର ହୋଇ ଯୁଦ୍ଧ କରନ୍ତି, ଯେ ଋତ ପାଇଁ ନିଜ ଦେହକୁ ଅର୍ପଣ କରନ୍ତି, କିମ୍ବା ଯେ ସହସ୍ର-ଦକ୍ଷିଣା (ହଜାରଗୁଣ ଦାନ-ଦକ୍ଷିଣା) ଦିଅନ୍ତି—ସେମାନଙ୍କ ପାଖକୁ ସେ ନିଶ୍ଚୟ ଯାଉ; ସେମାନଙ୍କୁ ହିଁ ସେ ପ୍ରାପ୍ତ କରୁ।

ये चित्पूर्व ऋतसाप ऋतावान ऋतावृधः । पितॄन्तपस्वतो यम ताँश्चिदेवापि गच्छतात् ॥
ହେ ଯମ, ଯେ ପ୍ରାଚୀନ ଋତ-ସାପ (ଋତର ସହଚର), ଋତବାନ (ଋତର ଧାରକ), ଏବଂ ଋତ-ବୃଧ (ଋତକୁ ବଢ଼ାଇଥିବା) ଥିଲେ—ତପସ୍ୱୀ ପିତୃମାନଙ୍କ ପାଖକୁ ସେ ନିଶ୍ଚୟ ଯାଉ; ସେମାନଙ୍କୁ ହିଁ ସେ ପ୍ରାପ୍ତ କରୁ।

सहस्रणीथाः कवयो ये गोपायन्ति सूर्यम् । ऋषीन्तपस्वतो यम तपोजाँ अपि गच्छतात् ॥
ହେ ଯମ, ସହସ୍ର-ଣୀଥା (ହଜାର ପଥର ନେତା) ଏମିତି କବିମାନେ, ଯେ ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟକୁ ରକ୍ଷା କରନ୍ତି—ତପସ୍ୱୀ, ତପୋଜା (ତପସରୁ ଜନ୍ମିତ) ଋଷିମାନଙ୍କ ପାଖକୁ ମଧ୍ୟ ସେ ଯାଉ; ସେମାନଙ୍କୁ ହିଁ ସେ ପ୍ରାପ୍ତ କରୁ।
