कांड १६ हे अथर्ववेदातील अभिचारिक प्रयोगांचे संक्षिप्त पण तीव्र संकलन आहे: मंत्र व विधी यांच्या साहाय्याने शत्रूशक्तींना बांधणे, शत्रूची वाणी दाबणे, आणि केलेली हानी मूळ कर्त्याकडेच परत पाठवणे. एकाच अनुवाकातील नऊ सूक्तांमध्ये शत्रूचे भाषण, निंदा‑अपवाद, तसेच प्रतिष्ठा, सुरक्षितता व उपजीविका ढासळवणाऱ्या अदृश्य दुष्प्रेरणा यांना लक्ष्य केले आहे. येथे आक्रमण सतत ‘प्रतिआक्रमण’ म्हणून मांडले जाते—विरोधकांना आवळून धरणे, त्यांचा हेतू वळवणे, आणि यजमान/आश्रयदात्याची सामाजिक उन्नती व समृद्धी सुरक्षित करणे. या कांडाचा सूर थेट व दडपशाहीचा असून, नियंत्रण व प्रतिबंध यांवर विशेष भर देतो.

In Atharvavedic thought, hostile speech—curse, slander, accusation—can function as an effective attack. The hymns therefore aim to silence, bind, or turn back such vāc to protect reputation, safety, and standing.
