Thou hast dominion over the earthly cattle, over those that are born, and also over those that beget. Let not the Life-breath abandon this man; nor let the Down-breath: let not friends smite this man, nor enemies.
Rishi: Atharvanic tradition (specific ṛṣi attribution for AV 2.28 varies by anukramaṇī; requires edition-specific confirmation).
Devata: A sovereign protective power (often treated as a lordly guardian; the verse functions pragmatically as a life-and-cattle protection charm rather than a narrowly personified deity).
Chandas: Triṣṭubh (11-syllable cadence typical of many Atharvanic protective verses; to be confirmed by syllable count in padapāṭha).
Primary: vira
Secondary: shanta
