Prashna Upanishad 4: Verse 4
तस्मै स होवाच प्रजाकामो वै प्रजापतिः स तपोऽतप्यत स तपस्तप्त्वा स मिथुनमुत्पादयते । रयिं च प्राणं चेत्येतौ मे बहुधा प्रजाः करिष्यत इति ॥४॥
तस्मै । सः । ह । उवाच । प्रजाकामः । वै । प्रजापतिः । सः । तपः । अतप्यत । सः । तपः । तप्त्वा । सः । मिथुनम् । उत्पादयते । रयिम् । च । प्राणम् । च । इति । एतौ । मे । बहुधा । प्रजाः । करिष्यतः । इति ॥
tasmai sa hovāca prajākāmo vai prajāpatiḥ sa tapo'tapyata sa tapastaptvā sa mithunam utpādayate | rayaṃ ca prāṇaṃ ca iti etau me bahudhā prajāḥ kariṣyata iti ||4||
रिशि ने कहा, प्रजापति को बच्चे चाहिए थे। इसलिए उन्होंने बहुत तप किया। तप कर के उन्होंने दो चीज़ें बनाई, रयि और प्राण। सोचा कि यह दोनों से बहुत सारे जीव पैदा होंगे।
To him he said: Prajapati, desirous of offspring, performed austerity. Having performed austerity, he produced a pair—Rayi and Prana—thinking, 'These two will produce for me creatures in manifold ways.'
