Sukta 80

Mantra 1

नह्यन्यं बळाकरं मर्डितारं शतक्रतो । त्वं न इन्द्र मृळय ॥

For there is no other strong maker, no other healer who can set right; you alone, O Indra of a hundred powers, bring us your mercy and restoration.

Mantra 2

यो नः शश्वत्पुराविथामृध्रो वाजसातये । स त्वं न इन्द्र मृळय ॥

You who from of old, unerring, have always protected us for the winning of plenitudes of force—be that same Indra to us now; show your restoring grace.

Mantra 3

किमङ्ग रध्रचोदनः सुन्वानस्यावितेदसि । कुवित्स्विन्द्र णः शकः ॥

Why, O impeller against the crookedness, are you not plainly the helper of the one who presses Soma? Will you indeed, O Indra, become capable for us—turning your power into effective aid?

Mantra 4

इन्द्र प्र णो रथमव पश्चाच्चित्सन्तमद्रिवः । पुरस्तादेनं मे कृधि ॥

O Indra, bring forward our chariot of progress, even if it has fallen behind; O wielder of the pressing-stone, set it in front for me—lead the movement of my journey.

Mantra 5

हन्तो नु किमाससे प्रथमं नो रथं कृधि । उपमं वाजयु श्रवः ॥

Come then—what more do you seek? Make our chariot first in the movement. O seeker of plenitude, grant a highest renown: the luminous affirmation of victory in the soul.

Mantra 6

अवा नो वाजयुं रथं सुकरं ते किमित्परि । अस्मान्त्सु जिग्युषस्कृधि ॥

Bring to us the chariot that seeks plenitude, easy for your power to fashion—what could stand around as an obstacle? Make us truly the conquerors in the struggle.

Mantra 7

इन्द्र दृह्यस्व पूरसि भद्रा त एति निष्कृतम् । इयं धीॠत्वियावती ॥

O Indra, become firm; you are the stronghold. A happy release comes to you. This inspired thought, rich in the right season and right order, advances toward its perfect execution.

Mantra 8

मा सीमवद्य आ भागुर्वी काष्ठा हितं धनम् । अपावृक्ता अरत्नयः ॥

Let them not partake in the blameworthy; the wide goal-posts stand, the treasure is set firm. Turned away, the unskilled hands fall back—only the right doers reach the placed wealth of being.

Mantra 9

तुरीयं नाम यज्ञियं यदा करस्तदुश्मसि । आदित्पतिर्न ओहसे ॥

When thou makest manifest the fourth, the sacrificial Name (the deeper power of invocation), then we grow ardent for it; then the Lord becomes our helper and bearer of strength for the onward movement.

Mantra 10

अवीवृधद्वो अमृता अमन्दीदेकद्यूर्देवा उत याश्च देवीः । तस्मा उ राधः कृणुत प्रशस्तं प्रातर्मक्षू धियावसुर्जगम्यात् ॥

The immortals have increased you; the One-Light of the gods has rejoiced, and the goddesses too. For him fashion a glory that is truly to be praised; may he swiftly come at dawn, rich in vision and in the wealth of thought.
