Sukta 73

Mantra 1

यदद्य स्थः परावति यदर्वावत्यश्विना । यद्वा पुरू पुरुभुजा यदन्तरिक्ष आ गतम् ॥

Wherever today you stand—far away or near at hand, O Aśvins—whether among many fields of enjoyment, O givers of abundant help, or whether in the mid-world, from there come to us.

Mantra 2

इह त्या पुरुभूतमा पुरू दंसांसि बिभ्रता । वरस्या याम्यध्रिगू हुवे तुविष्टमा भुजे ॥

Here I call you, most manifold in your becoming, bearing many powers of skill. Seeking the supreme good, I move toward you, O unhesitating ones; I call you, most mighty, for the sharing of your force and delight.

Mantra 3

ईर्मान्यद्वपुषे वपुश्चक्रं रथस्य येमथुः । पर्यन्या नाहुषा युगा मह्ना रजांसि दीयथः ॥

One form you set for beauty, another form you set; you fixed the wheel of the chariot. With another pair of yokes, O Nāhuṣa-descended ones, by your greatness you traverse the worlds—moving through the regions of consciousness.

Mantra 4

तदू षु वामेना कृतं विश्वा यद्वामनु ष्टवे । नाना जातावरेपसा समस्मे बन्धुमेयथुः ॥

All this is indeed your doing, whenever one follows with praise. Though born in different ways, O flawless ones, you come together to us as kin—making an intimate bond with the human seeker.

Mantra 5

आ यद्वां सूर्या रथं तिष्ठद्रघुष्यदं सदा । परि वामरुषा वयो घृणा वरन्त आतपः ॥

When Sūryā mounts your chariot—ever swift in its movement—around you the ruddy steeds of life-force wheel, and the glow and heat gather about you: a sign of the awakening radiance that accompanies your coming.

Mantra 6

युवोरत्रिश्चिकेतति नरा सुम्नेन चेतसा । घर्मं यद्वामरेपसं नासत्यास्ना भुरण्यति ॥

Atri becomes aware of you, O heroes, by the happy grace and the awakened mind. When he bears in his mouth the flawless gharmá—your warm, luminous offering—O Nāsatyas, he hastens with it as a power of swift fulfilment.

Mantra 7

उग्रो वां ककुहो ययिः शृण्वे यामेषु संतनिः । यद्वां दंसोभिरश्विनात्रिर्नराववर्तति ॥

Fierce is your summit-cry, your swift going; it is heard in the journeys, the continuous outflow of your help. When Atri, by your wondrous powers, O Aśvins, turns again and again toward you, O heroes, you answer with effective movement.

Mantra 8

मध्व ऊ षु मधूयुवा रुद्रा सिषक्ति पिप्युषी । यत्समुद्राति पर्षथः पक्वाः पृक्षो भरन्त वाम् ॥

Surely the honeyed sweetness, O honey-young Rudras, clings to you—rich and increasing. When you cross beyond the oceanic depths, the ripened draughts bring to you nourishment: the mature powers carry your share of plenitude.

Mantra 9

सत्यमिद्वा उ अश्विना युवामाहुर्मयोभुवा । ता यामन्यामहूतमा यामन्ना मृळयत्तमा ॥

Truly indeed, O Aśvins, you two are called the bringers of delight and well-being. In every movement of the journey, you are the most readily invoked; in every movement, you are the most powerful to pour out mercy and healing.

Mantra 10

इमा ब्रह्माणि वर्धनाश्विभ्यां सन्तु शंतमा । या तक्षाम रथाँ इवावोचाम बृहन्नमः ॥

May these mantras, fostering growth, be most full of peace for the Aśvins. As one fashions chariots, so have we shaped our utterance; we speak a vast and widening homage.
