Mantra 1

समिद्धो अद्य मनुषो दुरोणे देवो देवान्यजसि जातवेदः । आ च वह मित्रमहश्चिकित्वान्त्वं दूतः कविरसि प्रचेताः ॥

Kindled today in the human dwelling, O Jātavedas, thou divine Power sacrificest to the gods. Bring also the Friend of the Greatness; for thou art the messenger, the seer-poet, the wide-awake knower who carries our will upward.

Mantra 2

तनूनपात्पथ ऋतस्य यानान्मध्वा समञ्जन्त्स्वदया सुजिह्व । मन्मानि धीभिरुत यज्ञमृन्धन्देवत्रा च कृणुह्यध्वरं नः ॥

O Tanūnapāt, on the paths of Ṛta that go forward, anointing them with honey, make them sweet—O fair-tongued. Strengthen our inspired thoughts with the powers of understanding; and fashion our sacrifice into a godward movement, unhindered and true.

Mantra 3

आजुह्वान ईड्यो वन्द्यश्चा याह्यग्ने वसुभिः सजोषाः । त्वं देवानामसि यह्व होता स एनान्यक्षीषितो यजीयान् ॥

O Agni, invoked with the ladle, worthy of adoration and of praise, come with the Vasus in one accord. Thou art the impelling Hotṛ of the gods; then, directed by thy will, sacrifice to these—thou who art most fit to perform the offering.

Mantra 4

प्राचीनं बर्हिः प्रदिशा पृथिव्या वस्तोरस्या वृज्यते अग्रे अह्नाम् । व्यु प्रथते वितरं वरीयो देवेभ्यो अदितये स्योनम् ॥

The sacred seat (barhis) is spread eastward, along the earth’s direction, at the dawn-front of the days. It widens out, more and more spacious, a happier breadth—becoming a blissful foundation for the gods, for Aditi the Infinite.

Mantra 5

व्यचस्वतीरुर्विया वि श्रयन्तां पतिभ्यो न जनयः शुम्भमानाः । देवीर्द्वारो बृहतीर्विश्वमिन्वा देवेभ्यो भवत सुप्रायणाः ॥

Let the wide and radiant Doors spread open—like women adorned for their lords. O divine Doors, vast and all-furthering, become for the gods a happy passage and a perfect going-forth.

Mantra 6

आ सुष्वयन्ती यजते उपाके उषासानक्ता सदतां नि योनौ । दिव्ये योषणे बृहती सुरुक्मे अधि श्रियं शुक्रपिशं दधाने ॥

Let Dawn and Night, awakening the sacrifice from near at hand, take their seat in their own womb of harmony. In the divine feminine field, vast and richly adorned, they establish the luminous beauty and the bright-form of splendour within us.

Mantra 7

दैव्या होतारा प्रथमा सुवाचा मिमाना यज्ञं मनुषो यजध्यै । प्रचोदयन्ता विदथेषु कारू प्राचीनं ज्योतिः प्रदिशा दिशन्ता ॥

The divine Hotars, first in their right utterance, measure out the sacrifice for man to offer. They awaken the inspired maker in the assemblies, pointing out the forward light and assigning its directions within the being.

Mantra 8

आ नो यज्ञं भारती तूयमेत्विळा मनुष्वदिह चेतयन्ती । तिस्रो देवीर्बर्हिरेदं स्योनं सरस्वती स्वपसः सदन्तु ॥

May Bhāratī swiftly come to our sacrifice; may Iḷā, human-ward, awaken us here. May the three goddesses—upon this blissful seat of the barhis—Sarasvatī and the others, sit down in their fine working, establishing the rite within.

Mantra 9

य इमे द्यावापृथिवी जनित्री रूपैरपिंशद्भुवनानि विश्वा । तमद्य होतरिषितो यजीयान्देवं त्वष्टारमिह यक्षि विद्वान् ॥

He who fashioned all the worlds with forms, the two begetters—Heaven and Earth—let him today be offered by you, O Hotar, guided and knowing: Tvaṣṭṛ, the divine shaper, sacrifice to him here in full awareness.

Mantra 10

उपावसृज त्मन्या समञ्जन्देवानां पाथ ऋतुथा हवींषि । वनस्पतिः शमिता देवो अग्निः स्वदन्तु हव्यं मधुना घृतेन ॥

Release and let go, by the inmost self, and in right joining set the path for the gods—offerings in their season. May Vanaspati, the arranger, and Agni the divine, make the oblation sweet to the taste with honey and with clarified light.

Mantra 11

सद्यो जातो व्यमिमीत यज्ञमग्निर्देवानामभवत्पुरोगाः । अस्य होतुः प्रदिश्यृतस्य वाचि स्वाहाकृतं हविरदन्तु देवाः ॥

Born at once, Agni measured out the sacrifice and became the one who goes in front of the gods. In the directive word of this Hotar, in the speech of Ṛta, let the gods partake of the oblation made ready with svāhā.
